Mom needs teens' opinion on bedroom paint color

Hi everyone:

I have a teenaged DS who will be 16 later this month. He's going away this weekend on a school trip and won't be back until Monday afternoon. Recently I told him that we want to paint his bedroom and get new curtains and bedspread for him. His favorite color is black. I told him he can't have black walls, but he can have black curtains and bedspread. I told him he could pick out any other color. He mentioned green, but I think that's just because it was the first color that he thought of.

So here's my idea. I want to paint his bedroom while he's away this weekend, and surprise him when he gets back on Monday afternoon. I'm thinking of picking out a battle-ship gray color paint for the walls, black curtains and bedspread, and new area rug that will mainly have black in it. Then maybe some neon-green accents, think "The Matrix". He has a Matrix (the movie) poster in his room and that's also the screen saver for his computer (black background with the neon-green numbers). Oh yeah, one more thing. We just bought him a new computer and the colors are silver/gray and black, and he loves it, which is why I'm thinking of this color scheme.

So...teens, especially boys (but girls, I'd love your opinions too!), what do you think of the gray/black/neon-green-accents color scheme?? Thanks!!

I seem to like the idea of the room. I would go for it.

My mom and I did my room in only weekend too. Just be sure to make sure you have enough time and don't spend to much on one thing.

One thing that seemed to help us was a lot of planning. Making sure we had a time limit on each thing that we did.

Just have fun with the project. Lots of caffiene. :bounce:

i asked my friend and at first he said no b/c it would be hot but then he siad it would be a good i dea cuz i told him ur son wanted it all black in the first place so i guess it would be a good idea

When I started reading your post and saw that your DS wanted black, my first thought was that you should do a room in black and neon green.:D I think that's a great color scheme for a teenage guy.

And it's good that you're redecorating his room now...I've wanted to redecorate my room for a few years, but now I'm not even going to bother since I'll be leaving for college in a little more than a year.

Thanks for the comments so far! :)

PrincessTink: Thanks for the tips. I have a lot of experience with painting, we just painted our new familyroom and livingroom in the last few months :)

MinnieROXS: Thanks for asking your friend, it's always good to hear a guy's opinion :)

nsyncraider17: Thanks for your comment, I think he'll like this color combination :) I agree with the timing of it, and that's why I want to do his bedroom now, while he's still a "kid", if you know what I mean. He'll be going off to college in a few years so he might as well get some enjoyment out of it till then.
