we are heading to Disney in September. (we went last may) This time we will have a 11.5 month old with us. I was mentioning it to my mom and she gave me all kinds of guilt/hard time about taking our "baby" - that she won't be able to ride ANYTHING (so not true) and our other kids will have a horrible time with one standing in line with one parent and the other waiting his/her turn to ride with the other parent (she has no idea about child swap) and that it's dangerous taking 3 young kids with only 2 adults...ugh

I tried explaining it to her but she still insisted It was going to be a horrible vacation for us and our other kids (5 &4)

please - anyone else out there who has take an 11-12 month old - was it really that bad (in case it matters - she's a really easy going baby)

does she want you to invite her???? Maybe she feels she would be a tremendous help to all of you if she went along.
Otherwise, ignore her. If your DH is good at helping you out there's nothing to worry about;)

NO - she doesn't want to go - Disney is not her "thing"...lol

Just ignore her. All of her points are moot. We took DD at 14 months, I know that's a *little* older, but she wasn't walking yet either. We had a really really nice time.

We're actually going to take a 3 month old in December!

That totally sounds like my mother-in-law. She actually suggested that we let her keep our daughter while we went on vacation to celebrate our daughter's 1st birthday. :headache: Taking our daughter wasn't any trouble at all. My husband just took our son on all the rides we couldn't take our daughter on. While they were on rides I took our little girl to shows, or shopping or even just sat on the bench for a little break. It worked out nicely. I was (am) pregnant at the time so it was nice to just slow down and enjoy Disney.

The hardest thing about the trip (other than our trip to urgent care) was planning for it. We mailed diapers, baby food, formula, bibs, wipes, teething gel, etc. down to our resort prior to our arrival. It was nice not having to lug everything onto the plane, especially with their heavy weight charges. Then we were able to send that box back home with our souvenirs and everything else we didn't need for the plane ride back.

We are actually planning on going back next year for Thanksgiving with our new little one who should be around 14 months, our daughter who will be 21 months and our son who will be 16. Now that ought to be exciting. :lmao:

We took our DS at 12 weeks, 4.5, 8.5, the week before he turned 1, and at 14 months (and since then too:laughing:). One of the things that's so great about vacationing at WDW is that so much is catered to families- if you stay onsite you can get pack & play's for your room at no charge, in the parks, the baby care centers are great for diaper changes and feedings, nursing in cool comfort, plus anything for the baby that you would need- food, diapers, wipes, binkies, clothes, toys etc!:rotfl: Rider switch and fast pass make for easy riding for the big people, and so many rides that you CAN take a little one on.
At that age my DS was pretty easy going too- it wasn't until he was closer to 2 before he made our vacations a little more hectic!:lmao:

thankfully we are driving - it's about 8 hours from our house - we plan to drive down to daytona and stay the night then hit Disney early check in - we'll be able to pack diapers etc into our car ;)

I took my nephew last december to Disney for the 1st time on his 1st birthday and it was awesome. He went on everything that we did, except SM, of course but his mom and I rode separately, while he took a nap, so he didn't even how that one of us was gone.

The first time we went as a family, dd was 4, ds1 was 2 and ds2 was 9 months. We drove, too, and it was totally fine! We're going for our third time this September and our lil' guy will be over 2. Everyone had fun. It's hard to ignore your mom, I'm sure, but sometimes you just have to tune it out.

It's going to be a GREAT trip! We took DD at 11 months and had an absolute ball. She's going on her fifth trip next month, and she just turned three. Her little brother is 19 months old and going on trip #3. Each trip has been so much fun, and I don't regret any of it! :thumbsup2

When my mom has her mind made up about something, there is no talking her out of it. So what I do is write her a letter explaining my position, hand it to her, and leave so she has to "hear me out" without arguing. If I were in your position, I would print a list of all the rides, shows, and play areas your son can participate in, with picture if possible. It will be a LONG list! I would also include an explanation of child swap, and the first hand accounts many people are posting here of their positive experiences with a baby. It will be hard to argue with that!

I would just politely tell her, "while I respect your opinion, I have done extensive research on taking babies to WDW, and as long as you make some provisions such as breaks and baby swaps, we will be just fine."
So BUTT OUT :rotfl2:

I took my 1 year old to DL last year and there was plenty of things he was able to ride. We had a great time and my 4 year old even remembers things from last year that I don't. Go and have fun!!

Our first trip is this August and we are in the same boat. The kiddos will be 4, 2, and 9 months when we go. We even invited my MIL along. Instead she keeps insisting that all of the kids are too young, but if we insist on going we need to leave the baby with her. We just politely inform her that this is a family vacation and our whole family is going. It's frustrating.

We took DS1 when he was 11 months. He had an absolute blast and we had an amazing time watching him have so much fun. Next month we are going again with DS2 who will be 17 months and are looking forward to it. Sure, you have to do baby swap on rides, but there is still a lot for the little ones to see and do.

We took DS when he was 11.5 months old! It was probably the easiest trip we have ever taken with him (we have been back at age 2 and 3 so far)!!

We did make a point to go back to the hotel for an afternoon break - nap was usually involved, but he would also be happy napping in his stroller - but I thought that it was important for him to be removed from the stimulation and heat for a few hours just to reset for a great night out!

We enjoyed the adult rides using FP, Parent Swap, during nap time, or while DS was with the other parent on another ride (for example - I could single rider line at SM, while DH and DS went on Buzz again)

Just ignore the stink-eye and make sure to send her lots of pictures of you all having a GREAT time!!

Our youngest of three kids will turn 2 the day before we leave, so not exactly the same, but I never gave it a second thought as whether to take her or not. There's only a handful of rides at each park that an 11 month old will not be able to ride and depending on your older kids heights and fright potential they might not be able to ride some of those anyway. I also had a good laugh over the thought that 2 parents can't handle 3 kids -- my husband is very hands on, but is an attorney and works LONG hours -- I'm used to being on my own with three kids all the time, when there's two of us -- it seems like the easiest thing in the world. I say enjoy your trip and ignore the stink eye.

We took DD when she was 10 months old and had a great trip. She was VERY easy going tho and had fun no matter what ( wonder what happened lol). In fact she said her first words on IASW and took her first steps on that trip so it was a fabulous trip made of wonderful lifelong memories. To this day we still have to ride IASW and I always cry like a baby..
