"Mom, Dad, 3 Kids & a Gingerbread Boy" Matty's Wish Trip December 10-18, 2009

Oh Muppets! I loved them as a kid! I need to check out one of their movies before we leave. I'm a Diet Coke addict, converted from Dr Pepper, before they came out with a Diet DP. And I also go for water, or iced tea, or a margarita :lmao: if they don't have coke products.

Part III: Tuesday Night Lights With 'That Girl in the Cute Little Dress'"

Across the park we run, weaving our way in and out of all the people, people who are simultaneously attempting to weave their way in and out of US  What a crowd!! Fantasmic is scheduled for 6:30...................of course the bulk of the crowd was probably in "line" somewhere between 5 and 5:30. Time check of our watch reveals it to be about 6:25 :rotfl: The good news? Once we get to the entrance it's going to be a straight shot to the show :woohoo: The bad news? Choice of seats is sure to be few and far between :sad2:

The walk from the 'entrance' to the 'actual seating area' proves to be quite the hike! YIKES Where's that magic carpet when you need it?? But eventually we get there and secure a spot on the right side of the amphitheater just as the show is beginning to start. Not the best of seats but beggars can't be choosers now can they? At least we aren't standing up!

I had heard so much about this Fantasmic show during my planning days that it quickly became a definate must-do for our trip. The special effects I must say were quite something; definately set this show apart from anything else. I can see though where the theme of this show could be construed as 'dark' and a bit 'scary' as some have said, particularly for very young ones. In hindsight I am glad we saw it, especially given that it gets such top billing and I think I would always have been wondering what we had missed if we hadn't made it. Will we do it again though? Probably not. At least not for a number of years to come. The crowd was outrageous.....................it was like a massive herd of cattle getting out of there (moooooooooooooo). And to have to get there soooooo early to secure good seats???????? Nah. Not for us. Next time I think we'll be heading over to Toy Story Mania instead for another round of rootin' tootin' shootin' carnival fun :woohoo:

After braving the 'Battle of the Bovines' we decide to make a quick pit stop at the restroom before heading over to the Osbourne Spectacle of Lights. Once everyone is feeling a cup (or perhaps a pint) lighter we move on. I'm up ahead with Olivia, Nicky Noodle and my Matty. Dh grabs Brennan and the stroller and follows behind. As I turn over my shoulder to say something to dh I catch sight of this pretty little girl in the cutest of dresses. And hey look.....................her doll is dressed in the...................same........................cute.....................dress.????????

Hey, wait a minute.

That looks like........................

OMG

It's Alyssa (in a Big Give outfit)!!!!!!!!

Alyssa and Chrissi and Dwayne and Shayna and DJ!!!!!!!

Again!!!!!!

This is just too crazy:goodvibes

As it turns out Chrissi and her family are just coming out of Fantasmic as well and are on their way to ride Star Tours. We stand and chat for awhile and then, since both attractions are on the other side of the park, decide to just walk together in that direction. Chrissi and I seem to be without a loss for words. Dh and her husband seem to be chatting away easily. And the kids? Well, they all seem to be getting along famously as well. :) We arrive at Star Tours expecting to part ways until my boys start begging for another spin. "Please, please.......................we can all go together!" Hey, what a great idea  We have some initial concerns about the CM raising his eyebrows when all 11 of us crash his gate with our GACs :rotfl: but as it turns out he doesn't bat an eye.

After our spin in space we decide to take in the Spectacle of Lights together as well. Beautiful. Sadly our camera doesn't do so good with 'twinkling lights' so you'll have to forgive the two lousy pictures we do have and take my word for it........................

100_2702.jpg

Fortuately there is a photopass photographer there that is able to take some great photos. Here's our group shot.........................

Image0199.jpg

Such a great memory :)

After taking in the sights (and the lights) we realize that closing time is unfortunately drawing near. But wait! Maybe we can squeeze one more ride on Toy Story Mania before we go. Do you think?????? All ELEVEN of us?????? We head in that direction, crossing our fingers and toes but.....................unfortunately when we get there find that we are NINE minutes too late! Oh well. Guess there's nothing left to do but head to the exit. So we do and along the way make a plan for a little ice cream action back at the GKTW Ice Cream Parlor :woohoo:

We end up spending a good hour to an hour and a half chatting and eating ice cream while the kids play. The kids have soooo much fun running around in the courtyard and playing hide and seek. Chrissi's son DJ (15) is so great with the little kids and my little boys are just loving all this fun and attention from this 'big' boy. And Alyssa and Liv seem to hit it off like two little peas in a pod. Such wonderful memories are made that night.

Eventually everyone seems tired out and we make them sit just long enough for one last picture (fortunately the quality of the memory far outshines the quality of this picture):

100_2705.jpg

We reluctantly say our goodbyes and promise to catch up at the Gingerbread House in the morning for breakfast before check-out.

Did I say check-out? Is our time at GKTW over already? Hard to believe it's gone by so fast. We return to our villa with a bit of sadness in our hearts. Fortunately we will be checking in to a Disney property tomorrow night for a couple more days of fun. Nothing like a new adventure to cushion the blow :)

Next up: "Hellooooooooooooooo Down There!!"

As always, loving the updates.:goodvibes And you have me cracking up at "Battle of the Bovines.":rotfl2: That right there is enough for me to reconsider Fantasmic. I have no patience for big crowds.:rolleyes1 I think it's neat that you kept running into Crissi's family!

It's so nice you were able to meet back up with Crissi and her family. I love the picture of you all! We aren't planning on watching Fantasmic as I just do not think Ty would like it but if we happen to catch it and he isn't too overwhelmed by it I would love to see it.

Thanks for the Fantasmic report! I think after all that's been written recently, we might skip that one. We're not into "scary" or bovines!

Glad you guys still have a few extra days because I'm enjoying the TR and want it to continue!! ;)

We enjoyed Sci-Fi too - the atmosphere and the food. My Mom is a coke addict so I had to take her picture by the big coke bottle too!

I can't believe you ran into Chrissi's family again! It sounds/looks like you guys had a great evening together.

You are in the home stretch of this TR now - you can do it! :cheer2:

I honestly was not exaggerating about the crowd. It was unbelievable. I know I read somewhere the actual number of people that can be accomodated for Fantasmic and was like................."whoa!" So seriously, if crowds aren't your thing, I'd say you are right in avoiding it!

I'm sure you would enjoy it. I hope no one misunderstood me. It was a great show, and I am glad we got to see it once. Just not sure I would do it again. The crowd was such a big negative for me.

Oh gee thanx!! I do have 3 more days to report on and lots of px so it won't be over too soon!

Running in to Chrissi's family again and again and again was crazy! We never planned, or even knew, that we would be in these same places at the same times. Too coincidental to be coincidental...................if you believe in those things (which I do)!

And now for my shameless plug :rotfl:

I just started my PTR for our Spring trip..............."I Promise, This Time I Won't Laugh If A Bird Poops On Your Head"!!!!

Intrigued? Come join me!!!!!

I couldn't find your PTR. Can you link it? Even better but a link in your siggie so everyone sees it.

Hey Jen.............thanx for the interest!!! I'm on page 4 or something silly like that  that's why you couldn't find me :rotfl: But I did finally include the link in my signature in the hopes that it won't always be just me, myself and I. Of course I don't use my siggie on this thread so I'll just put the link in:

"I Promise, This Time I Won't Laugh If a Bird Poops On Your Head - A Spring 2010 PTR" http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2412386

So is your hope for a December trip definately out or perhaps still a remote possibility?

Pamela, I just got caught up with your trip report. I have been away since I posted in january. I loved all the pictures. You have a beautiful family. I just got confirmation yesterday that my DS Evan (if you remember also has HLHS) qualifies for a Wish. I want to thank you for informing me that HLHS kids can qualify. He is thinking of going back to WDW this summer possibly with other Wish kids who come with Kurt Warner ( the retired football quarterback). Evan loves football and WDW so it will be like 2 wishes in 1 if his wish can be granted. I look forward to your next trip report.:)

Found you! Thanks for the link!

December is not totally dead - we just need to see how the next few months play out financially. I am still holding out hope but then the responsible side of me says you should be spending that money on the house. I think though if finances are good that the irresponsible side is going to win!

oh dear...I don't know how I missed this:eek: I'm sorry! Thanx so much for taking the time to find me again. And I'm so glad to hear that you pursued a Wish for your son :yay: In the past I never would've considered it but I am so so happy I changed my mind. I look forward to reading your PTR someday soon (hint hint;))

And to anyone who cares....................I am BACK!!! So sorry it took me so long but as I said on my new PTR I just couldn't deal with the dial-up (we lost our wireless about 10 days or so ago). But we now have FIOS and therefore I am in business!!! Got a ton of px uploaded last night so guess I have a job to do huh?

OK................I'm on it :thumbsup2

Part I: Well Hello Down There!!!

The alarm goes off waaaaay too early this Wednesday morning. 6:30. Did I just say 6:30? Oh yes I did :rotfl: And for good reason I might add. Because this very morning we have a little surprise lined up for my Matty (and his lucky big brother Nicky). We had heard about 'this place' back when I was planning in November and had promptly put it on the 'must-do' list. Of course I knew availability was limited so I wasn't so sure we would actually be able to secure a reservation. When we did, well, let's just say dh and I were mucho excited. Of course this morning the boys have absolutely no idea what the heck is going on so having to wake from their pleasant slumber before the sun is up is a wee bit confusing. "What's going on?" they ask. "Where are we going" they wonder. Over and over and over we see the same confused faces; hear the same questions. But, nope, sorry my little ones, Mom and Dad are simply NOT giving up the goods.

The reservation has been made for 7:15 am. "Come to the House of Hearts at about 10 of 7 to pick up your confirmation letter", we had been told. And so out the door they go...........................dh with Matty and Nicky in tow, right on schedule (will wonders never cease?). I stay with Liv and Brennan (still soundly sleeping I might add). Only we have one problem. When dh gets to the front desk he finds that the reservations had never been emailed over to 'the place'. So, what does this mean you wonder? I'll tell ya. It means that..............................no real reservation exists!!!

WHAT???

Now fortunately my dh is the one hearing this information on this very early Wednesday morning. My dh; the gentler of this pairing. Me? I probably would've pitched a bit of a fit right there and then  But dh? Nope. He's Mr. Levelheaded. And after much discussion................and alittle bit of back and forth with 'the place'...................a couple of alternatives are offered up: 8:15 or 12 noon. A quick run back to the villa to confer with the Mrs. (yes, that'd be moi) and we have our time. 8:15.

And so they are off.

To where?

Oh, didn't I tell you?

Well, to here............................................

100_2723.jpg

Still don't know? Well, maybe a close-up will help.

100_2724.jpg

Anybody still confused? How 'bout now?

100_2725.jpg

100_2726.jpg

Yup, you got it...........they are going for a ride!!! In a CESSNA!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Now unfortunately I was not there to experience all the great fun as this 'little' 'tiny' plane seats a maximum of only four. Initially dh wanted to ask Matty who he wanted to go with but I thought better of that, quickly intervened, and suggested it should be a "boy's only" trip. Well, dh certainly wasn't about to argue with that!!

Of course what this means is that I can't 'tell' you much about this wonderful experience. BUT I can 'show' you if you want.

Here are some px...............

Here are my little buddies looking all 'official':

You were right if you guessed Downtown Disney, Universal/IOA, a waterpark, and SeaWorld (please proceed to the front desk to redeem your prize)

And of course a picture with the pilot:

100_2768.jpg

All told, their private plane ride lasted almost 45 minutes, just enough...............................and the boys just loved it (including dh!!!). We would have to give this experience the :thumbsup2 and recommend it to anyone still planning their trip. Just one more special memory to be taken away from our ever incredible week of magic :)

Up Next: "Never Can Say Goodbye"

How fun! You guys were one of the first to experience that I'm sure! Did the boys say if it was loud? Did the pilot turn so they could see things or could they just see them? Such a unique experience tempts me to book it, but i just don't know if Phoebe would like it. Looks like your boys had a blast though!

Cool!! That looks so fun and they got some great pics. Gavin was excited to see Universal and the roller coaster he went on. So glad DH was able to get the confussion worked out. Did I read you have a new PTR started??

Im finally all caught up - life has been a bit mad and Im sorry to say the dis has had to take a back seat. Im back now and I cant wait to read more.
Have to say too the pics from the aeroplane made me feel more than a little sick so i guess ill have to pass on that experience :-)

The boys said it wasn't very loud because of the headphones.................without them it would've been. And according to dh, yes the pilot did turn and circle a number of times over the different parks etc. It turned out to be a great surprise. And definately something they NEVER would have experienced without this trip :thumbsup2

Dh did get some good ones didn't he? It took me awhile to figure out what was what at first but then, once I figured it out, it seemed pretty clear LOL YES! I do have another PTR for our Spring 'girl's only' trip. I'll leave my signature on this post which has the link in case you want to check us out. Haven't done much with it yet....just an introduction. I promised I wouldn't abandon the gingerbread boy so this TR has to be my priority until it's finished.

I haven't been on much lately either. I need to figure out how to manage a happy medium and not get sooooooo involved that other things go undone.

I actually suggested just making it a boy's flight because I was a wee bit afraid Matty might say he wanted me to go  (momma's boy that he is ). It seemed like it'd be fun but I'm not a big fan of big airplanes, never mind little tiny ones :rotfl:

OK, gonna try and upload some more px and depending on how long it takes me maybe get in another installment. And I have soooooo many PTR's and NEW TR's to catch up on! I'm so sorry I've lost track of what's going on with everyone. We're having Olivia's birthday party (just the six of us and my folks) tomorrow...................finally (her bday was 3/8:rolleyes1). I spent all day making and decorating the cake while dh took the kids skiing. I'm a bit tired from standing in the kitchen all day though. We'll see how long I last

Part II: "Never Can Say Goodbye"

With dh and the boys gone for a bit, and Olivia and Brennan fast asleep, it seems a perfect time to pack it up. Is it really Wednesday? Already? :sad1: Now most people of course would've been pretty well packed up before the morning 'of', but.......................not me. Nuh, uh. Last minute Lucy once again :rotfl: The fact that we are simply transferring to other sleeping accomodations of course makes things a wee bit easier. No need to be neat or super organized at this point. Just THROW the stuff in the van right?

While making my way through the drawers and closets I do keep my eye on the clock however. Last night we had promised to meet Chrissi and her family for breakfast at the Gingerbread House. The agreed upon time was 9:00. It is obvious that we will be alittle late since dh and the boys didn't get that earlier 7:15 reservation BUT I am hopeful that we won't be too too late. Finally, at 9:30, we hear the van pull up in the driveway. "Let's go!" We grab our belongings and RUN!!

On our way up the path to the Gingerbread House we find a rather funny looking character with some mighty big red shoes!!!!!!! (and I will resist the temptation to reference the old joke about what it means if some funny looking character has some mighty big red shoes ) What exactly his affiliation is with GKTW remains a bit of a mystery :confused3 but, what the heck...................any opportunity for a photo op with a celebrity (with some mighty big red shoes) must not be missed! Here we are..................

100_2769.jpg

Once inside the Gingerbread House we find that Chrissi et al are just finishing up. We chat for a bit while enjoying our very........................last....................delicious........................breakfast here in the village. And then say a very difficult goodbye :sad1:

Eventually we manage to finish stuffing ourselves silly. Oh how I know I'm going to miss these breakfasts! And the kids! Sorry my chickens, it's back to microwavable oatmeal and a banana for you :rotfl: I know I must pick myself up and return to the villa to finalize the packing. The kids and dh? Well it certainly makes no sense to try and do my thing with the whole clan under foot. What shall they do? Well, first stop................the Carousel! And then, alittle Castle action. Moving on to the Amberville Train Station. And then, upon my return at 11:45..................over to the Ice Cream Parlor for what we'll call 'lunch' (and a high calorie, cold and creamy lunch at that!)

Here's few px of some of the fun.....................

There are a few idle thoughts of hanging around the village for the rest of the day but............................we must resist. We have one park hopper left. Tomorrow, Thursday, we have tickets for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Friday it is unfortunately supposed to rain. Ok, so, sadly, it really IS time to go.

Dh goes to the House of Hearts to do the final check out.

And then we all make one final trip to the Castle of Miracles to find Matty's star........

100_2816.jpg

Goodbye :sad1:
