This is my first trip report so bear with me if I go long. My DD, almost 3, and I made our first WDW trip 9/14-9/22. Here's an overview of our experiences:

09/14: An early wake-up at 4:00 AM PST for me - not that I was sleeping well anyway. :) I let DD sleep until 5:00 and had everything ready to go and we were out the door by 5:30. The drive to the Porltand airport is about 45 miles so I wanted to leave plenty of time for the drive, in case of traffic, plus to park and ride the shuttle to the terminal for our 8:05 AM departure. Everything went smoothly and we were on our way on time.

A short layover in Denver allowed us to get lunch and stretch our legs before the next flight took us to Orlando (MCO), which landed on time. I had arranged for a towncar to meet us at the airport so, after getting our checked luggage, we went outside to look for the car - the driver was supposed to be waiting with a sign showing our last name. Unfortunately, there was no such car and driver. After 15 minutes, I called the service. The man didn't know what had happened but assured me he'd have another car there ASAP and would not charge for the first leg of the RT service. The other car arrived within 20 minutes and we were on our way to the AKL.

Checkin went smoothly and we were soon in our Savannah view room - and saw giraffes, much to the delight of DD! I'd considered trying Boma for our first night but since we didn't get to our room until a bit after 8PM EST, I was too hot and tired to want to deal with a sit-down meal so we opted for The Mara. I have to say I wasn't impressed with the pizza I got but at least I was able to eat in the comfort of our room.

09/15: Knowing we'd get in late and be tired from the time difference, I had scheduled us to go to AK our first morning. We got up and going by 9AM and had a nice, leisurely morning at the park. Because it was so hot and humid and we were tired, we really enjoyed the shows there were inside - and air conditioned. My DD especially liked the Festival of the Lion King. The only rides we did we rode twice, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Triceratops Spin.

Lunch was at the Tusker house, roast chicken and veggies. DD wasn't very hungry so just picked at the food. I was about the same and something in the seasoning wasn't appealing to me in my state. We left the park early, around 3PM, to rest in our room so we'd be ready for dinner at Chef Mickey's.

Chef Mickey's didn't work out as I'd hoped. My DD did not want to talk to, let alone get near, any of the characters. She'd walked right up to Minnie at AK earlier that day so I was surprised by this change. I let DD know that she didn't have to even look at the characters if she didn't want to. I'd just wave at thema and say "Not today, thanks" which seemed to reassure her. All the characters came by our table and seemed to sense immediately that she wasn't comfortable with their presence. Most just waved, mimed a few "comments" and moved one. The food was OK but I still didn't have much of an appetite nor did DD. DD did enjoy the monorail ride from the TTC to CR and back. We also were able to see some of the MK fireworks as we rode.

09/16: PSB was first on our agenda. Being the somewhat over-indulgent mom that I am, I'd made a dress for DD to wear for this breakfast.

Again, DD wasn't happy to see the characters in the restaurant - even if they were princesses! Luckily, though, when one came to our table, DD was willing to talk and pose for a pitcure. She later commented that the princesses could talk but not Mickey and friends. The food was just OK again but that's not why we went there.

After breakfast, we walked balk to the main entrance so we could start at the right spot. Also, we were able to be there when the characters arrived to greet the guests. Again, DD walked right up to Minnie but would have nothing to do with the other characters. Thinking back now, it seems like we didn't do much at Epcot but we had fun. DD most liked the bands playing - and had a ball dancing with a band in Mexico. We were able to catch most of a show by Off Kilter and liked that. I was afraid DD would be impatient to go somewhere else but she was content to sit and listen - only moving to a new seat a couple of times. :) DD also enjoyed the water jet areas... and I enjoyed the chance to sit down and relax for awhile.

After a break back at our room, we did a few repeat rides then had dinner at the Cantina de San Angel. The food was great and, except for the rain, we enjoyed the meal a lot - DD even ate most of her burrito. I must express some irritation with other guests who grabbed tables with umbrellas to escape the rain which left those of actually trying to find a table at which to eat "out in the cold" - almost literally. Of course, this was the one time I had not brought our umbrella or ponchos - I left the stroller in the room and forgot to grab rain gear.

We walked around a bit until time for Illuminations. One mistake I'd made was to stop "on the farside of the world" which made for a long walk balk to the exit. Because I didn't want to deal with the crowds waiting for buses, not there was really that many people at the park compared to regular season, I let DD play in another of the water jet areas with 2 other kids. We had a very short wait for the bus once we got to the stop. Both of us were very ready for bed once we were back in our room.

What a precious princess . . . I really enjoyed your trip report!

09/17: On the itinerary for today - Disney MGM Studios. Because of the late night at Epcot, we slept in a bit but still made it to the park in good time. Again, we mostly hit the shows, more because my DD seemed to like them than because we didn't want to go on rides. I was concerned about "Sounds Dangerous" because so much takes place in the dark but DD did fine. One show we missed that I kick myself we didn't see is Beauty and the Beast. Oh well, that just gives another reason to return soon. After the parade, we had an early dinner was at Hollywood & Vine - very good food.

Since we were moving from AKL to WL this day, our afternoon break was taken at WL to check in and get somethings settled. I'd underestimated how much time it would take to get back to the park so we made it just as Fantasmic was starting. Luckily, there were still plenty of seats so we could enjoy it in relative comfort. Back to WL and a dip in the pool - where we both got multiple mosquito bites (and of course I didn't think to bring any anti-itch creme when I packed).

09/18: Magic Kingdom, here we come. We had PS for CP and got there just in time. Again, I'd miscalculated on transportation and didn't realize the boats from WL to MK don't start early enough for the earlier PSs. We made it, though, and DD was a bit better with the characters, although she only posed with Piglet and Pooh. The food was quite good.

This is the park where we really hit the rides. DD saw the plunge on Splash Mountain and wanted to go on it... but was not quite tall enough this trip. We still had a great time on most of the other rides. We had a late lunch at Cosmic Ray's and enjoyed that as well. After an afternoon break in the room, we played for several hours more but didn't try to see the parade or wishes as the crowds were much bigger that night than they'd been the previous days at other parks.

09/19: Back to MK. We were both pretty tired so left early after going on a few more rides (repeats of some) and getting DD's face painted.

After we'd rested and enjoyed a leisurely afternoon at the WL, we headed to the Poly for dinner at O'Hana. I knew by then that I'd overdone the character meals because DD was very concerned about who would be there. WHile I tried to reassure her it would be just "people like us", she was still very leery and insisted on sitting in my lap for the meal - at least until the hula hoops were brought out. The food was great and the atmosphere was fun yet relaxing.

09/20: Another day at MK. This was by far our favorite park this trip so we spent the most time here. More rides ands shows plus another face painting experience - I preferred the previous days results but DD was happy. Lunch at Pecos Bills - just in time for another downpour. Again we had to do a lot of walking to find a table - many were occupied by people who were waiting out the rain but not eating... grrr!. The food was OK but I wouldn't make a special effort to eat there again.

Another midday return to our room then it was time to get ready for dinner at 1900 Park Fare. DD was again concerned about who'd be there but seemed more relaxed when the characters came around, although she'd only pose with Cinderella. The photo in my sig is of her on the stairs of the GF while we waited for our table. She had fun dancing to a "rag band" playing in the balcony overlooking the lobby. At dinner, she got many compliments on her dress - even from Cinderella and Prince Charming. After dinner, we spent a little time in the lobby listening to a pianist and DD was "twirled" by a bride who was relaxing with her new DH and family - I'm assuming just after the reception.

09/21: Our last full day in the world. We headed to DTD to do a little shopping. Ended up getting way too many Mr Potato Head pieces. :) Then we headed over to the BC for lunch at B&C. The burger was OK but the sundae was worth the trip (used a Q&C voucher so didn't feel bad that I left half of the sundae behind). We returned to our room to rest a but then on to MK for a last evening of fun and fireworks. Even though the crowds were less that day than on Saturday, it was still difficult to find a spot for the SpectroMagic. We watched most of it then DD was ready to move so we headed to the Plaza Pavillion for a snack and lucked into a table that had a great view of the castle... so we stayed for Wishes.

We took one last ride on the monorail then headed back to WL for the evening.

09/22: Breakfast at WCC. The food was good but DD was still leery of characters. She was doing great until a woman at a nearby table said something about Beauty and the Beast (I think trying to get her DD to eat so they could go see B&B) and DD was sure they were coming. It took a couple of minutes but she finally believed that they weren't coming and ended up participating in a wooden horse race. After breakfast, it was back to the room to pack the last minute items before check out.

Our towncar was waiting as promised this time. We got to the airport without incident and on our way home ontime. Another plane switch in Denver but this one didn't go so well. I don't know if I made a wrong turn but we ended up having to go back through the security screening. This took about 30 minutes - which was most of the time we had between flights! They were making everyone take off their shoes for some reason. Just as I got up to the converyor table, a TSA employee walked up with 8-10 people who were allowed to cut in line ahead of us because their plane was departing in 10 minutes. Imagine how well that went over. :) We made it to our plane with 5 minutes to spare but didn't have time to get lunch or use the restroom, unfortunately. I hate airplane restrooms when I;ve traveled alone and taking a second person, no matter how small, into it with you wasn't fun.

We got to Portland ahead of schedule, got our luggage and onto a shuttle smoothly. It was then that I realized I had forgotten to write down the shuttle stop closest to where we parked. I was afraid we'd be walking around looking for our car in the dark but we lucked out and the last stop of the shuttle we were on was the one we needed. The car started (I always worry about that) and our home was still standing when we pulled into the driveway so the other issues faded from my thoughts as we headed to bed taking only time to bring the luggage in. (I also worry about fire destroying my home when I'm gone overnight or longer.)

Well, hopefully that wasn't too long. I know I glossed over a lot but did touch on those things I though stood out and tried not to focus just on what I didn't like.

Hello from a fellow Oregonian! Great report and your daughter is DARLING!

thanks for sharing such a nice trip report! and i didnt feel that it was too long at all - quite enjoyable!

Thanks so much, enjoyed reading your trip report... I am also doing a Mom & Daughter trip soon, so I especially loved reading about yours.

I have been reading so much on here to get ready, we leave in 5 weeks. My daughter is a bit older than yours though, 10 years. I loved the beautiful dresses you made for her, she is truly a Little Princess and it shows!

Thanks so much for your report. It sounds like you two had a wonderful time. You daughter is absolutely adorable!

Thank you for sharing with us. Did you and your daughter end up getting into pin trading? I know you had been researching it here on the boards.

Thank you for sharing. It sounds like a wonderful trip. You daughter is just charming in her dress! So, which did you like better, AKL or WL? I've stayed at both and prefer AKL, that place is just enchanting!

Great report and your daughter is DARLING in her princess dress!

Did I read correctly that you made it?! Talent!

Glad you both had a magical time.

Thanks all for your kind words.

Stitchfan - To be honest, I took our pins but never got the courage to try to make a trade. :) Also, since it was so humid, even the extra weight/coverage of the lanyard seemed to much to deal with so I'd often put it away after an hour or so.

jennymouse - I enjoyed both lodges but I definitely preferred the room we had at AKL. In addition to a nicer view, it seemed like the layout of the room was a bit more spacious in feel. That could be because we had a queen w/bunkbeds at AKL and 2 queens at WL. DD loved the bunk. She slept in the bottom one and made the top her play area. Was nice to have a place for her toys that wasn't on the floor where I could step on them at night. As for the other parts of the lodges, they both rated quite well with us.

Enjoyed your trip report! Sounds like you two got a lot accomplished on your trip.

Great Report!! where did you get that face painting its so neat my girls would LOVE that!! your little "princess" is such a little doll!! i just can't wait to go my Mil is making a belle costume and a snow white costume for my two girls!!! sounds like you two had a blast!
