Moles....guacamole...holy moly...!!

OK...it wasn't the catchiest of thread titles but I need serious help!!

My back yard has been over taken with moles in the last 2-3 months. There must be 2,000 feet of tunnels...upturned dirt....bare grass....holes....etc. My yard is so bad....I am having trouble mowing...I fall down alot (not good when you are mowing) due to the soft dirt and holes....and my kids can't even play out there anymore...!!! Its a wreck...

I have put out traps....they failed....I've done the pellets...they didnt' eat them....I've pounded down the tunnels 3 times with my sledgehammer (neighbors go inside and lock their doors as I am cursing while this is being done) which took a good hour each time....tried flushing out the tunnels with water hose on full blast....NOTHING...I mean nothing works!!! They are now starting to go up my side yard towards the front.... The amazing part is NONE OF MY NEIGHBORS HAVE ANY PROBLEMS!! just me....??????? We all back up to the woods...I had great grass before this started (do the Scotts thing every spring and fall).

I'm thinking at this point...a shotgun...car exhaust pipe tunneled into their holes....maybe even a stick of dynamite...!! This is worse than any "Caddyshack" scene I've ever seen!! (told you I was becoming obsessed over this mess)

Does ANYone have any suggestions...?? I am absolutely beside myself as I planned to sell my house in the spring but now I am going to have a mess!

Have you tried one of those ultrasonic devices? That's supposed to make them scurry in fear. But on the other hand..if they leave YOUR yard, they might go over to the neighbors, who would be upset because you're the one who forced them into THEIR yards.

Are there exterminators or lawn services that can help you? I've never had this problem (<i>yet</i>) so I don't have much advice for you.

Get rid of your grubs and chances are, you will get rid of your moles. There is a pesticide out there that you apply like fertilizer. This worked great for my neighbor.

Unfortunately the pesticide that gets rid of the grubs takes 1-2 years to kick in. My DB has had luck with the car exhaust when the traps failed.

I agree with Amid Chaos, I had moles in my yard and was told they are there because there is somthing there to eat, Grubs I treated for the grubs and have no more moles.

My advice is to run right out and rent Caddyshak. Bill Murray had many creative ways of eliminating small lawn rodents in that movie.

Even if they don't work, you'll get a good laugh.

Yep, try ultrasonic devices and if all else fails. The pest exterminators are your best friends.

Thanks for all your responses. I know there are exterminators out there...but they also charge an arm and a leg for these type services (I checked them...). I was trying to find my OWN sure fire way of getting rid of these pesky things. My yard looks like WWII.....its horrible.

I went yesterday to the sporting goods section and bought some red fox urine. I sprayed it in various spots of the yard where Mr. Critter has been residing. I'm not sure if its done anything yet or not....(I read this tip online...we'll see)

all I know is IT SMELLED HORRIBLE...!!! If I were a critter in my back yard...I'd need a gas mask bout now...lol
