Does anyone know what a good substitute for molasses would be? i want to make baked beans but alas, there is no molasses to be found in our house...

try useing honey, cane syrup, even a dark corn syrup might work

The honey i have used in past and was a good altho different flavor, the cane syrup was ok too.

For 1 cup, use 1 cup honey; or 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar; or granulated sugar plus 1/4 cup liquid (water or other liquid called for in recipe); 1 cup dark corn syrup; or 1 cup pure maple syrup.

I have always used dark brown sugar as substitute for molasses. I just keep adding the brown sugar and then tasting after each addition to make sure it isn't to sweet. When I make baked beans, I drain all the juice off the beans and reserve before putting them in the pot. Then if the beans need more liquid, I will add some of the juice back into the beans.
