I admit it, I'm having huge anxiety issues about handing over the amount of money needed to buy a new pair of diamond earrings.

I actually bought a pair at our local jeweler, and then returned them after about 30 mins. I was embarrassed, but I just couldn't stand the thought of how much money I just spent. ( They were 2 cts )

I came on here and asked about buying diamonds on ebay. Decided not to. Again too much money, especially not seeing what I'm actually getting when I pay for them.

I've considered buying them this spring break in the Caribbean. But, I know it's not a great idea. Again, by the time I get them home and appraised, who knows if I'd even get what I paid for.

So, now I've moved on to moissanite. About 1/5 the cost for comparable diamond earrings set in gold with a screw back. I could probably buy them and not need to be medicated later.

Anyone with opinions?

Diamondique from QVC, if you REALLY feel bad about the $ you'll spend on real. I have a pair set in 14 K and a friend who owns a jewelry store said they are great fakes. Totally not worth it to me for real ones as I've lost too many earrings!

Go for it. Diamonds are so overpriced. Moissanite or good czs are going to give you the look you want. I'd be so paranoid about losing 2 carat diamond earrings I don't think I'd be able to enjoy wearing them.

Unless they have greatly improved the color of moissanite in the last few years I would stick with cz. There's a lot of yellow tint in moissanite so unless you're going to have yellow gold settings I would opt for something with better color.

i have had a good response to swaroski but mine are smaller sized than that. i have a pair of hoops with them set in and a coworker who use to work at tiffany's thought they were from there! if you go for CZ there are some on nordstrom's that got great reviews, i was thinking about getting a pair of those.

i have diamond necklaces and rings i inherited but no earrings. i wear my swaroski studs with them and most people just assume they are real too. i once heard a celebrity say if you mix the real with the fake people are less likely to notice, they were on tv wearing real bracelets with fake and you honestly could not tell.

I think moissanite is overpriced considering what it is. Personally If paying retail is putting you off but you want the real thing or similar go for buying from a pawn shop or estate jeweler, Consider purchasing manmade diamonds (they are about 1/4 the cost and are tech still a diamond they will be marked but no one can see it without a loop and they will be pretty much flawless) or go for white saphires. Regardless remember that unless your purchasing exceptionally high quality diamonds they don't hold a lot of resale value consider them an heirloom for yourself maybe your daughters but not an investment piece so have fun with it.

My engagement ring is moissanite - I got it in 2001, before moissanite was really known. I chose this stone because I knew I didn't want diamonds after doing pretty extensive research into the diamond industry - so I did it for a social reason, as opposed to cost.

My particular stone is a very high quality 2kt - my jeweler (who had not heard of moissanite in 2001) was shocked at its clarity and color. I love it.

I think moissanite is a great choice. They've greatly improved the color and clarity of moissanite in the last few years. There's even an extra "brightening" process companies use to make them appear whiter and brighter http://www.moissaniteco.com/guide_amora_moissanite.html

I use www.moissaniteco.com their customer service is wonderful and very helpful. It's a great option for people who don't want to spend a fortune on diamonds, want to ensure theyre conflict free, and still want a brilliant stone. No one knows my piece is moissanite and I'll never tell ;) even my mother still compliments how brilliant and "blinding" my pieces are in the sun.

Thanks for the info everyone!

Thanks for that moissanite website. I may just order my earrings from them.

They're great and have a wonderful warranty with the main manufacturer of moissanite stones.
