Has anyone been to both? Which did you like better? I'm not a gambler, though I do enjoy the slot machines (I'm a little old lady in the body of a 20something, what can I say? :rotfl:) I'm thinking about taking either a day trip or an overnighter to one of these casinos in the not too distant future with my mother. Is one of them better for wheelchair access? Any thoughts?

I've been to both, just once each, but my Mom and Dad go quote a bit, along with my sibs, and they all prefer Mohegan Sun over Foxwoods.

I couldn't give you any good reasons why, they just do. They seem to think its a little less crowded, better restraunts, stuff like that.

Too funny...I was actually at both today! Now, let me add that I am NOT a gambler and have been to each of them only a couple of times before. Today I took DS to the Pequot Museum at Foxwoods and then DH and I headed to Mohegan Sun for dinner at a Mexican place that just opened. Too ironic that you asked your question today.

Anyway, I prefer the outside of Foxwoods and the inside of Mohegan Sun. Foxwoods is located in the woods and the architecture is much more to my liking, but the inside is a bit too neon and bright for me. Mohegan Sun has a very futuristic look to its architecture, but is sort of like a Wilderness Lodge version of a casino inside...lots of wood, rock, water and warm colors.

There are many, many restaurants at each but I would guess there are more stores at Foxwoods. As for wheelchairs, I'd have to go with Mohegan Sun. It is smaller and less spread out. There are two main casino areas connected by a Downtown Disney type area filled with shops and restaurants.

We ate at Soltoro tonight and it was amazing. If you like Mexican it is definitely worth a stop. You can visit www.foxwoods.com and www.mohegansun.com to see lists of other restaurants and the shops at each. Also, each place has a show venue so you might want to check what/who is appearing in case there is someone you like. That might sway you one way or the other. Foxwoods' theater is more like a typical theater setup while Mohegan Sun has a sports arena set-up plus a traditional theater.

Have fun, whichever one you go to. Oh...and keep in mind that they are only about 20 minutes apart so you could go to both if you'd like.

I also prefer Mohegan Sun. It has a warmer, cozier, friendlier feel:grouphug: . And it seems feel like their slots keep me losing at a much slower pace. It is easier to find your way around. I'm not sure how accessable it is, but I have been to both many times and can't imagine where either would be a problem.

Thanks for all the help, everyone!

Crafty, I couldn't have picked a better day to ask my question!

I've been leaning towards Mohegan Sun, so it sounds like I've almost sealed the deal. I'll have to see what kind of availability they have if we want to do an overnight.

Hello!

I have been to both several times. I do find Foxwoods to have more smoke, however Foxwoods is generally easier to get into as far as a room. Mohegan Sun seems to be completely booked a lot.

I do love Mexican though--I didn't know there was a new place at Mohegan Sun!

Yup! It was fantastic! It is located in the Casino of the Sky, not in the shopping/dining corridor. Try it next time you're there!

I've never been to Foxwoods - and I'm sad to hear there's more smoke. I can't stand the smoke. It's gross.

Other than the smoke, I love Mohegan Sun. I've been twice - first time I was $500 and the second time I won $1050 (my mom won over $500 that trip).

Honestly, they need to make more non-smoking areas. I don't think I'll be back because of it.

Michael Jordan's Steakhouse tuna appetizer was fantastic, btw.

Very regulary! We live right between both.

Mohegan is WAY better, very pretty inside, great restaurants (esp. Tuscany and Michael Jordan's) there's a nightclub, AWESOME martini bar called Leffingwells, and at the center there is there Wolf Den bar where they have great FREE shows. I saw Air Supply there a few years ago. I ate at Tuscany last week but want ot try out the new Mexican place

Foxwoods is cool too, more modern looking. I go to Hard Rock Cafe alot there and they recently put in a sports bar/restaurant called The Stadium which is all Red Sox and Yankees. I haven't been the the nightclub there is many years.

Nearly everyone I know prefers Mohegan over Foxwoods so... but you will definetly have a good time at either, esp. if you win!

BTW- Foxwoods does have a non smoking section

We've been to both, once, and also prefer Mohegan Sun. Unfortunately, it's really hard to get a room there. Foxwoods is also cheaper, for a room.

We didn't stay at either, since our trip was to see Mystic, not the casinos.

Have fun. I'm sure you'll enjoy either one...they both are very nice.

We just went to Mohegan Sun for the first time (1 night) and LOVED it. Michael Jordan's Steakhouse is the absolute best...pricey, but worth every penney.

Mohegan is easier to navigate, is prettier, has much better places to drink, and has a Krispy Kreme.

Foxwoods has more games, better restaurants, more nightlife and more for kids.

Personally, I can't be in either one of them for more than 45 minutes without getting sick from all the cigarette smoke. The non-smoking sections in both don't have enough games.

It really depends on what you do plan on doing. We have stayed at both. I, personally, like Mohegan Sun better for the overall atmosphere, shopping, and food choice. But, I love the high-stakes bingo at Foxwoods! I'm not of much help am I? :rolleyes1

My best advice would be to take a good look at the websites and really concentrate on the amenities that you're likely to use. Make your decision based on the hotel that best fits with what you are likely to utilize. Foxwoods is enormous but I never felt that there was as much to do there as there was at Mohegan Sun. They're both just about in the middle of nowhere (although MS is much easier to get in and out of) so you're really roped to the hotel for entertainment, etc. If you're not much of a gambler, you may have a BLAST at the bingo. We love bingo anyway but became particularly addicted to it... making the drive from Hartford to FW to play on week ngihts when were (and the 2 cats and dog) were living in a hotel room for DH's job training. :upsidedow

Wow, thanks for all the info everyone. Now I have to figure out which one my mother would prefer. Lack of hotel availability isn't necessarily a deal breaker - we would most like be making a day trip out of it. Bingo at Foxwoods sounds like it could be fun....oh the choices!!!
