Modifying Use Year?

I know I'm being lazy and should just call my DVC agent and discuss this with him. But, after taking the majority of our past vacations in October and December, our December Use Year was perfect for booking for the following year's 11 month reservation window at our Home resort.

But now that my DS's school schedule will dictate the greater likelihood of future summer month vacations and will no longer benefit from that 11 month booking advantage. Is it possible to modify our existing contract to shift the Use Year to take advantage of June and July trips or is that just not possible without a major contract overhaul and all that goes with it?

Can't do it, sorry! You would have to sell the current contract and buy one with the UY you wanted.

Keep in mind your UY doesn't dictate when you can put in a 11 month reservation. I would think a DEC UY is fine for summer vacations, isn't July 31st your banking deadline?

2 things here:

1) you can't change your use year, but more importantly

2) use year has nothing to do with when you can call to book. zero.

you can call to book your home resort at 11 months. use year is a nonissue.

Points are not "deposited" into your account when your use year starts. They are deposited years in advance and are ready to be used for stays in that use year. With a December use year, if you look at your account online, you should show 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 points in your account. So if you wanted to call for a June 2011 stay in July 2010, that stay would be in your 12/1/10-11/30/11 use year and those points are in your account now. You could even borrow 12/1/11 use year points for that stay, they are also in your account now. There's no waiting for your use year to start to make a reservation.

Debbie, you addressed my concern perfectly. I was in the early planning stages for a June 2011 vacation with the knowledge of having only 108 pts. remaining in my December 2010 use year.

I thought I wasn't allowed to borrow any of my December 2011 use year points until December of 2010 which would have been only six months before my targeted dates. But member services confirmed, as you did as well, that I have my full allotment of points available to me at the eleven month mark, July 2010, to borrow from my December 2011 use year.
