I called MS about 2 weeks ago and made a ressie for two days at AKL using points. (Don't flame me about using points for this ressie. It was a case of use them or lose them.) Anyway, since then I've received letters in the mail every day (or every other day) saying that this ressie has been modified. Nothing has changed about the ressie. It is still the same view, etc. Does anyone know why MS does this? It seems like a big waste of paper to me. I also made ressies for the rest of our vacation at VWL and only received one confirmation for it. Why is it different when you are staying in a non-DVC property?

Same thing happened with my VWL ressie a couple of weeks ago. I got two confirmations both saying they had been modified but read exactly the same. I was paranoid because this is for the 1st week of December a very busy time for DVC and we are taking family with us. I called and the CM mentioned something about computer problems they were having. I made him reread my ressie again over the phone just to be sure. Everything was what I had asked for , so who knows.

I don't know why one system would work differently than the other - looks like a flaw in the computer programing - but who knows?

I would love to stay in AKL - I have a reservations but cancelled it to stay at a US hotel - much cheaper - but one day I will definitely!

We made a reservation for my sister for May. Very shortly thereafter, we got a confirmation. Last week we got another confirmation. Never changed this reservation in any way. It makes me nervous, though, and I have read and re-read it because I am worried something WAS changed and it will be a problem for my sister. We haven't gotten duplicate confirmations for any other reservations. Go figure......

P. S. And I am sorry you worried (rightfully I expect) about flames for using points for AKL. However, there are many of us who have done so or would consider using them for non-DVC resorts, and those who think a bad idea -- well, that is their opinion and we are entitled to do what we choose with our points. I almost didn't look at using points for non-DVC because of some vocal comments on this board, but in actually reviewing the dates and points I can see where there are times when certain resorts would be a perfectly reasonable use of points. We might stay at FW a couple of nights later this year, and we love AKL and will figure out a time to catch a couple of nights there, points or cash. Enjoy your points and try not to worry about justifying your use of them. :D

Most people are anti- using points at non-DVC resorts due to the cost, and they will tell you about that in case you are ignorant about the cost differences, as I was. After several posts offering ideas about my using points that had to be used or lost, I rented the 68 points at $10 per point=$680, and made a cash ressie at AKL for $127 per night, saving me $426. That paid for our meals, and part of an annual passport, too. I felt that the "flamers" were being helpful rather than critical, and they saved me a lot of money, so I was happy. You are always free to reject any ideas you don't like--that's the beauty of the internet :jester:

Most of the posts that I've seen that speak "negatively" about using points for non-DVC Resort stays do so in response to people who are inquiring about getting into DVC with the idea of trading to non-DVC resorts on a regular basis.

I don't think anybody really cares how someone uses their points once they've joined, but when a newbie asks a question and it appears obvious that their main goal is to stay, for example, mostly at the Polynesian Resort....that is when I see a lot of comments about DVC being inefficient for trading out into regular resorts on a frequent basis.

We don't anticipate using our DVC points for WDW resorts...but who knows what the next 39 years will bring? Never say never! :)

I have run into the missing info as well. After a call they always had it entered into the system.

Enjoy your trip!!!
