Modification question

I will be booking a 1-bedroom at Boulder Ridge for late January/early February 2027 at the 11 month mark.

I'm hoping to switch that to a 2-bedroom at the 7-month mark using some of our other points that would expire if not used.

So if our dates are January 30th-February 6th, do I need to wait until July 6th to modify the entire reservation to a 2-bedroom?

Or...I believe I actually have enough BRV points to book a 2-bedroom at the 11 month mark. So should I do that and then at the 7 month mark, is it easy to modify the reservation using different points for part of it? And if so, I still need to wait until July 6th, correct?

What is the best way to go about this? I've only ever modified dates before but never which points used.

If you book a 2 bedroom now within your 11 month window, you won't be able to switch to different points at 7 months. That would be a cancel and rebook, and unless that room is still available you take the risk of your cancellation being snapped up by a waitlist or something.

If you book the 1 bedroom now, at 7 months you can go in and modify to a 2 bedroom if they're still available and use points from other contracts for the difference.

Your 7 month window would be June 30th as that is the first day of your reservation and would cover your 7 nights.

You may or may not be able to modify it online at 7 months to add the other contracts. Mine seems to always be locked but I believe @Sandisw has had success.

You should be able to call MS and they can reallocate the points for you assuming that the rooms are still available at 7 months.

I think you are limited to check-in plus seven days, but yes---it's based on the start date.

If all of the dates are available you could modify and book it all at 7 months from the start date which would be June 30th using any points you wish.

If any of the dates are unavailable then you would have to wait a little longer, maybe until July 6th depending on which dates are available to grab. If you grabbed 1 or a few nights at the beginning or end of the trip using other points at 7 months, then you could modify your 11 month trip and drop those same days from it, saving some of the BRV points

Yes the 11 and 7 month window starts from the first day of your trip.

You can book 7 days at a once at both 11 or 7 months and then add on a day so for a 10 day trip would take you 4 days to book (7 + 1 + 1 + 1)

However if you were at 10 or 6 months for example you could grab all 10 days at once if they were available.

I've had reservations show as locked even if I booked them within 7 months. Not sure how it decides what gets locked and what doesn't. A quick call to MS always solves it though.

Before I booked my 1 BR CCV stay for this past 1st week of February, I was debating between BRV and CCV. 1 BRs at both BRV and CCV were wide open during that time period well into the 7-month window. I wasn’t paying attention to 2 BR availability, but it looks like dedicated 2 BRs at both aren’t too difficult to get either if you look at the dvcfieldgude.com availability tables.

If it were me, I’d probably book my 2 BR now and then look at what availability looks like at 7-months. If you can still get all your nights, I’d just cancel and rebook. If some of your nights are unavailable, I’d probably modify my existing reservation to include as many of the unavailable nights as possible and then book or waitlist the other nights separately. Then, once they all come through, merge the reservations.
