I have a 2bd at my home resort April 25-May1. I tried to modify this morning (2bd still available) to use up expiring non HR points and the HR contract is padlocked?!? There's availibilty but it won't allow me to modify without using the HR points even though we are at 7 month?? Is this how it's supposed to work? Do I need to cancel and rebook? Totally confused :/

At 7-months out, you cannot modify online a reservation made at 11-months out to replace HR points with points from a different resort. You either need to call to make any change or cancel the existing reservation and make a new one for the same period that uses the non-HR points.

Now they're both padlock. This is so bizarre - I don't get why I can't just modify an 11 month reservation at 7 months if there's availibility still, without canceling and rebooking?!?

Thx @drusba - it just seems counter-intuitive since there's still availibility. Do you think a MS rep would be able to modify instead of cancel and rebook?

You can not reorder the contracts so if you want to swap current UY, it does require a call.

However, non hone resort points banked will get taken online if you check both as long as there are nights available.

What I have always done is booked new nights if at beginning or end at 7 months and then modified the original. Or, I’d just book and switch it abs then call to have the points reallocated at a later time.

Perfect!! thx @Sandisw - It's a reservation I've rented out (bc the border is still closed) and so would prefer not to change the reservation #. I have 30 expiring SSR and RIV (2019 expired points DVC replaced with RIV points for international owners) that I prefer not to lose. So if I just check them all off it should use up the points set to expire even though they aren't HR points? It looks very daunting and if it were my own reservation I wouldn't hesitate!

And, yes, if the reservation is still separately open, MS will just do a modification by changing applicable points and will not do a cancellation and new reservation. My understanding is that trying to do it online cannot be done because the system doesn't make the intelligent choice to switch the points if the reservation you want is still separately available. The exception, as noted above, is that if the points from the non-HR are banked, you may be able to modify online if applicable nights are separately available.
