Modesty Issue...

You should be fine. There are plenty of woman who wear long skirts on the rides. Just make sure you pull it in and it doesn't get caught when you get in something like Space Mountain.

:)

I suggest you avoid the tree house. Coud you compromisr and wear coulotes?

What about wearing something like bike shorts under the skirt? The bike shorts have a closer fit than regular shorts - or just wear regular shorts. At least if you have any concerns all someone would see are shorts.

I know lots of christians (women) who wear shorts and pants, I'm sure that you can do the same.

You should be fine. May I also suggest wearing bike shorts or those longer legged undies....prevents "galding" in the heat.;)

What will you wear when you go to the pool or the water parks?
I have seen women weaaring dresses in WDW, but quite frankly it does not look very comfortable. I would think Bermuda Shorts are more appropriate/modest than a dress. A dress does not make sense, espically if you want to go on any kind of ride as there is more of a chance of im-modesty with a dress, since you do have to climb into many rides.

Don't mean to be disrespectful but... Is this an April Fools joke?
My very conservative church now encourages shorts in the summer to save on air conditioning.

Emme, it looks like you are getting more than you asked for here. If you want to wear long dresses for religious beliefs, go for it!

As far as the rides go, I agree with Dizzy4Dizney, just be sure to tuck the ends of your skirt into the ride before it starts. We try to go to WDW in the cooler months (relatively cooler...this is Florida afterall) and my wife has worn a dress to the parks and did not have any problems.

I have worn dresses without any problem. If that is what you like, then go for it! If you are planning on going in the Treehouse, you might want to put shorts on underneath, but otherwise you will be fine. The only thing I found is that when I got hot, my thighs would chafe... that is another arguement for the shorts under the dresses!

No, it wasn't an April Fool's joke...I was just asking for some help.

Though I must admit I feel like a fool now.

Emmy,

Please don't feel that way. It was a legitimate question, but unfortunately, there are folks on the DISboards that seem to just like to make slick comments rather than try to answer the question. Pease understand that if you want to wear a dress while at WDW, you will not be looked at funny in any way. There are ALL KINDS of people of different sizes, shades, religions, & lifestyles that go to WDW and they should all feel welcome there.

Please don't let the comments of some make you feel foolish. You asked a legitimate question, and in fact, I've seen it asked before with respect to long and short dresses.

Just ignore the "less than helpful" responses and focus on the ones who truly tried to help.

Emme - i have seen several ladies with cool flowing sun dresses and jumpers on in the parks. There should be no problems. I would, as one person has said, be sure to have the skirt tucked in tighly on most rides so as not to have it get caught in anything or fly up in a spin or flip. :o
As far as loading on or off any rides being a problem, as long as it is not a tight skirt, and you can get a big or deep enough step in you should do fine. ( i am thinking of the boat type rides and others that you have to step down into to load. A short or tight skirt would make this difficult or show a bit too much leg.)

Shorts under your skirt, in my opinion, would be more of a hinderance than help. Other than the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House, i can't think of any attraction where anyone would be directly underneath you.

Hope you have a wonderful time.

Emmy, please don't feel foolish! There's nothing wrong with a dress or skirt at WDW and I've seen plenty of women wearing them at the parks. Follow your beliefs!

I also agree with the idea of being extra careful about tucking the ends of your skirt in to keep them from getting caught on any ride safety mechanisms. I really can't think of any attraction you'd have a problem getting into, out of, or riding comfortably with a skirt that falls below your knee.

Dealing with a long wet skirt after Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom may not be too pretty, and the Swiss Family Treehouse has already been mentioned. These are the only pitfalls I can think of. Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom doesn't usually SOAK you like Kali River Rapids so you should be okay there.

Enjoy!

I love wearing long flowing sundresses when we have breakky in the castle ~ I wear the dress around all day ~ even on Space Mountain. I'd have to say that Spc Mtn is the most challenging ride of all the rides of get in and out off with a dress but it managable. S

FYI---When I went to Grad Nite (15yrs ago). We had to wear a dress or skirt. That was a Disney Rule. You were not allowed to wear jeans, shorts, not even bermudas. We had a blast..never occurred to me not to. I Think they have changed the rules somewhat since then.

Emme, I worry more about the shoes some ladies choose to wear than whether they're in a dress! How do those ladies do it?! Wearing heals at the park is something my body could not do, even if the heart were willing! I think it's fine if a lady chooses to wear a dress, and often wondered if it wouldn't be cooler than shorts!

I don't think it matters what you wear at WDW as long as you're comfortable and happy with what you wear. I would agree with those who said to be cautious with the skirt when getting on and off rides. And as long as the skirt is made of breathable material and doesn't make you feel too hot, you should be okey dokey! Wish you the best, and have an excellent trip!

When we went to MGM in March of 2001, there was actually a group there dressing in Amish/Menonite(sp?) clothing. Trust me when I say, you will see a little of everything at WDW in the way of dress. Please don't feel bad about asking a question like this.

I have no real input on the matter. I haven't put on a dress since I graduated from high school and they refused to let us walk if we wore shorts. lol Mickey
