Just purchased Dvc and will be staying at SSR (studio) this summer. How do the rooms compare to the moderates? My kids love POR,I'm almost afraid to tell them I've split the stay! A lot of people say they like that they don't feel like they're in a hotel, but we like that "vacationing" atmosphere! I don't want to feel like I'm in a really nice condo.I've never stayed Deluxe. Are the studios and villas as nice as the deluxe resort rooms.TIA :sunny:

It still seems like you are in a hotel. The only realy difference is the extra items like kitchenettes. The only aspect of DVC that bothers me is the housekeeping. It only keeps about every three or four days.

The rooms are much larger than the moderates and you have the addition of the kitchenettes which are handy. It's when you stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom that you really notice the difference. We have only stayed at OKW and they are just as nice as the deluxe rooms.

:offtopic: kinda

Just curious. If you don't like condos or the condo feel why did you buy a DVC?
I also prefer hotels/motels when I vacation. I enjoy dining out or having room service, I love receiving fresh towels and a having a freshly made bed each day. I do have a vacation home which is fine since I spend 2-3 months out of the year there, but I never wanted a condo or a time share. Having a full kitchen in my unit would make me feel like I was not on vacation (even if I never made a meal while I was there).
I know lots of people love their DVC, their condos, and their time shares and I hope you end up loving yours.
Just happy to know that others feel the same way I do.

Have a great time at Disney! Please let us know how much you enjoy SSR.

We purchased because we go alot (at least 2x/yr) and we have a large family. So the dvc accomodations are actually more economical the renting 2 moderate rooms. :)

have you seem SSR?

very upscale!!!

now if you like this you will love SSR. If you like relaxed, lay back - then you might have some problems....

SSR is absolutely beautiful. It is like Disney picked up the GF and put it here. It is that outstanding.

It is definitely better than the moderates.... but I still love POR....that say if you like POR then you might try to change your reservations to OKW.... both are more relaxed and laid back...

Now if you are loving CSR - then you might love SSR even more. Now their side is not as great as CSR. DVC was for some unknown reason trying to appeal to little kids as well as teens....\

if you are going to build a slide you need to appeal to the teens.

OKW slide is actually faster. which is strange too....

here are some pictures from other Dis posters

My sister and I bought into DVC after staying at Coronado Springs two years in a row. Our first DVC trip was in a studio at SSR, and the "feel" of our vacation was very similar to the previous trips. Having the kitchenette was a huge bonus for us, since we like to hop back and forth between our room and the parks. I thought Saratoga Springs was beautiful, but pretty laid back and relaxing. I think kids would love the main pool, but we really enjoyed the quiet pools and had one to ourselves most of the times we went to the pool. Hope this helps!

Actually, that's one of the best parts of DVC. No one coming in during the day when you want to nap or you're getting back early from the parks that day. I make my bed at home and do it at DVC. Easy. Hang up my towels at home and hang them up at DVC. Plus I have the washer and dryer so I go home with clean clothes. And I don't have to sit in the laundry room waiting for them wasting time.

One of the above posters mentioned room service, I've stayed at the Beach Club Villas and Wilderness Lodge Villas and they both have room service. I say try somewhere new, if you don't like it as much as the mods you can always stay there next time. I stayed at GF and didn't like it nearly as much as WL, BC, YC, or BW. It's all about personal tastes! :thumbsup2 :earboy2:

Spiceycat, thank you so much for the link :)

Beautiful isn't it....

those pictures are from other poster to the Dis...

SSR and OKW don't have room service. that say you can take a to go box from the food court/restuarant to your room at SSR.

CSR is a large resort that does not share services with other resorts and offers some deluxe amenities because it is a convention resort.

CSR offers babysitting/childcare services and valet service cleaning - laundry bags and price lists are found in the closet of each room. Service is available 7 days a week, call Housekeeping for pick up.

CSR also has a salon, spa, and a gym that other moderates do not offer. CSR has full menu room service and offers an internal shuttle system provided by golf carts to assist in getting to and from the main building to the villages.

It is also the only mod to offer suites.

CSR is situated around a 15 acre lake and CBR is situated around a 45 acre lake.

CSR has terrific transportation. It does not share with any other resort (like POR / POFQ) and it only has 4 bus stops within the resort (vs 8 at CBR). And since CSR is centrally located, you'll have a quick ride to all the parks.

And being a convention resort, the buses seem less crowded because guests are busy with their conventions.

CSR is the most central to the 3 parks you mentioned. See the map below.

CSR has the best pool of the mods and probably the second best on WDW property. Best mod pool. It offers a great slide (123 ft long), an arcade, a sand volleyball court, and a playground at the main pool area.

Review from mousesavers.com!!

Coronado Springs is my Best Value choice in the Moderate category. It has several advantages compared with the other Moderate resorts. It is newer, so there has been less wear-and-tear on everything. Also, Coronado Springs is a convention hotel, so it has a few extra amenities not offered at the other Moderates, including a salon, a health club and a more upscale food court.

The theming is radically different in the three areas of Coronado Springs. You can request a specific area when booking but there is no guarantee you'll get your request.

  • The Spanish-style Casitas at Coronado Springs are very peaceful, with courtyards featuring tiled fountains. Casitas Buildings 1, 3 and 2 (in that order) are the closest to the restaurants and services. Casitas Building 4 contains the salon and health club, if those are important to you.
  • The Cabanas at Coronado Springs have a beachy Caribbean feeling. Cabanas Building 8A is very close to the feature pool, which may be a blessing (convenience) or a curse (noise, light). Cabanas Building 9B is closest to the marina and relatively convenient to the restaurants and services.
  • The Ranchos at Coronado Springs feel quiet and secluded -- some would say isolated -- and feature desert landscaping and pueblo-style architecture. They look closest to the main pool on a map, but in actuality they are separated from the rest of the property by a swamp, so it can be a fairly long walk from these buildings to the pool, and a very long walk to the restaurants.

Eeyoresmom,

Don't worry one bit.....The DVC resorts do feel like hotels and are just as nice (if not nicer) than the deluxes. There really is no condo atmosphere whatsoever. You'll definately feel like you're on vacation and when you hear "Welcome Home" at check in, you'll know that not only are you on vacation, but you're also a part of something very wonderful! :wizard:

Your kids will love The High Rock Springs pool.....It'a great! :thumbsup2

DVC has spoiled our family again & again & having stayed DVC numerous times (both as members & non-members), we never even consider staying at the value or moderate resorts. :crowded:

Thanks.I knew I would love DVC.The kids really think POR is heaven on earth though. For our first dvc stay we'll check into POR (free dining) then move over to SSR for 5 nights. My kids are 2 older teens and 2 preteens so they do appreciate luxury and I think they'll love being able to walk to DTD.
