We are going in July with 3 kids 2, 4, & 8. We've stay at ASM & FWC hubby doesn't like AS want to try a moderate or deluxe (if codes come out & can afford. Which moderate recommend with kids & which delixe with kids. Thanks. ::MinnieMo

We've stayed at POR (DxL) several times and really enjoyed it. The pool area is a lot of fun. And the playground area is good. We also stayed at the Polynesian. That's a good one with kids. The Volcano pool is zero entry. The slide is fun. And it's nice being on the monorail for MK. Only a short walk to TTC to catch the monorail to Epcot. We took the little shuttle boats back and forth to MK from the Polynesian. They were cool. Those would be my choices. If you decide on the Polynesian, don't forget they have the Neverland Club for the older kids. My dd loves it there. The 2 y/o would be too young but the others would enjoy it.

I heartily recommend Wilderness Lodge for many reasons. First and foremost, it's a fabulous resort with wonderful theming and by far the best cast members I've ever encountered. The Magic Kingdom is only a very short and enjoyable boat ride away. There is a ton of stuff for the kids to do at the resort and the Fort Wilderness campground is only a short walk or boat ride away with its pony rides, petting zoo and nightly campfire with Chip and Dale followed by a different Disney movie every night. Although WL is a deluxe resort with all the amenities that implies, its rates are fairly reasonable, particularly if you can get a discount code for your stay.

I liked Coronado quite well for the moderates. The pool is very neat and the resort is quiet.

If you have to go with moderate, this would be one I would recommend.

My choices would be:

Moderate- POR

Deluxe- Either Polynesian or Wilderness Lodge

We love the GF its fantastic although we are trying POFQ this time for a change!!!::MinnieMo

I recently tried a moderate hotel (Port Orleans Riverside) after usually staying in Deluxes (I've stayed in Swan, Grand Floridian, Yacht Club, Boardwalk Inn, Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Wilderness Lodge).

I really missed the deluxe amenities while staying in a moderate, if nothing else for the location and transportation. There is nothing like have the opportunities to take the motor launch boats between GF or Poly and MK, or take the monorail from Contemp., GF, Poly...I was really surprised how much it changed the feel of the stay to only have access to buses and have such long trips between parks and such. At AKL there are only buses but you are very close to Animal Kingdom, which is our favorite resort. In fact, we usually start our WDW stays w/ a few at AKL so we can frequent Animal Kingdom a lot and then move on to another hotel near Epcot or MK for the rest of the trip. AKL is also a FABULOUS hotel. At both AKL and GF you feel totally pampered. It is sublime. I would stay at the Dolphin or Swan before I would choose a moderate again, both for a more luxurious setting and the location/ transportation access--the Swan and Dolphin also have many great discounts that make them as affordable as moderates some of the time.

Don't get caught up in the "moderate" & "deluxe" terms. Pick a resort for the theming, amenities & gut feeling.

There's a moderate I'd rather stay at than certain deluxes.

Several of the deluxe resorts sleep 5 which would be perfect for you guys. The YC has 2 queens and a daybed--very close to Epcot and MGM. The Poly also has 2 queens and a daybed close to MK.
Yes POR has the trundle but its not near as nice as the daybeds.
