Our next trip is celebrating our 10 yr anniversary and my 40th birthday plus both of our Sons birthdays. (6 &8)
In the past we have stayed at CSR, POR & CBR. I was interested in staying at a Dlx this trip since it is a special one. But I just can't justify the cost difference. We were think BC or YC or AKL.
Can someone who help me justify why we should stay Dlx vs Mod?

Thanks!

Only you can decide if the extras you get at deluxe resorts is worth the price to you. Some people won't stay any way other than deluxe while others would never consider the differences between moderate and deluxe to be worth the huge jump in price.

Extras at all of the deluxe resorts
  • deluxe restaurant onsite or within really easy access
  • multiple unique restaurants onsite
  • bigger rooms
  • the option of staying club level
  • room doors open to hallways instead of outdoors
  • higher end bath products

AKL
  • dedicated busses (almost, they share with AKV but that's kind of one bit resort with 2 stops).
  • animals (this is only one line item but for many of the fans of the resort it's worthy or several)

BC/YC
  • boat to DHS and Epcot
  • walking distance from Epcot
  • walking distance to the boardwalk
  • walking distance to restaurants at BWI and Swalphin
  • SAB

You know, I'd swear there were more differences but this is all I'm coming up with.

Take a look at Wilderness Lodge. It is a MK deluxe resort with a boat to get you to MK. It is beautiful and cheaper than some of the other deluxe. And they have bunk beds which might be fun for your kids. We went last April and are going back in December......both to WL. My kids are DD (13) and DS (7) so they don't like sleeping together!!!

WL is beautiful and I think you would love it. Check it out!!

I usually stay deluxe but I have had a few moderate stays. I have stayed at all of the deluxes except Poly. I have stayed both club level and non club at most of them.

To me, the huge difference is location. The amenities themselves are not worth the difference in cost. The convenience of quick access to a park is the value.

The exception to this is AKL. There, you get to wake up and have coffee on your balcony while watching the giraffes eat their breakfast. The lower price to stay at AKL reflects the convenience factor you give up by staying there.

Epcot is my favorite park and I love the multitude of dining choices available at World Showcase and the surrounding 5 resorts. So for me, the value is being able to walk to/from dinner and to end most every night at Epcot watching Illuminations and then having a short walk back to my room. I pay the extra for that. I don't care about the corridors or the bath products I don't use anyway. And while I love pool time, I am just as happy at one over another and wouldn't pay more to swim at Storm Along Bay. I like not having to get on a crowded bus or deal with traffic to end my Disney day and that is what I'm willing to pay for.

Finally, I found a post about the bunk beds. We are also staying at the WL in a bunk bed room. My kids are 15 (girl) and 11 (boy). They won't sleep in the same bed. I don't blame them. I was, actually, looking at BWI because they have a great looking water slide at the pool. They have a sofa bed, but I have read that it is not comfortable. I have a feeling that my kids will sleep better on the bunk bed. Rather than one being stuck on the sofa bed.

I agree with WL -- if you can get one of the 30% off deals, it ends up not being much more than a Mod -- for my trip next month it would have been $100 more per night. And, that would have gotten me boat access to the MK, and boat access to the CR, which would have then gotten me boat access to Monorail. Unfortunately, I forgot to change as work got in the way, and next thing I know, they are sold out of discount rooms.

The WL is a spectacular resort too -- I love Artist Point, and the pool and the general theming is such that the "men" would be in heaven.

I did it! I got a PIN in my email and I just went for it! We booked BC for 4/30-5/08. Can't wait! Now I am busy planning our dining. Thanks for everyone's opinions.
