I'm on virgin & my dh on o2; we expect to need to call each other at times in the park, and wondered if one can get cheap French PAYG simcards in auchan or another shop? Hope someone can help, thanks

Yes, you can. Various shops sell different brands; if you are price shopping you can do a quick check online for competitive rates.

They should do - you may have to call your provider if it only allows UK coverage at the moment (most allow worldwide now anyway). Obviously your call charges will be more expensive though.

Your call charges will be very expensive from a UK mobile to UK mobile in France.

We intend only texting on ours, to find each other in the parks etc.

Thanks so much Bavaria, not sure my school French is upto online pricing, plus not sure where to start, but will try Auchan or similar. I guess that I can always top up when we go back ( see, never been to DLP, but already planning our next trip...that's what DISboards does for you

I posted this on another thread but bears repeating ...

A french payg (basic) phone with SIM will cost you about E35 with E5.00 credit, 10 sms and 10 mms. OrangeFR is the most popular with tourists as their shops are everywhere. They sell E5.00 top-up cards in the majority of tabacs and supermarkets.

If your handset is unlocked (costs a tenner here in UK if not) you just need the SIM (E15.00 with E5.00 credit ) and E5.00 top-ups.

You can buy phones SIMs and topups at Val D'Europe in the supermarket, thats where we got ours.

Excellent information, Torchy. I recommend similar to those coming to Germany ie that they buy a local SIM and use that. The discount shops and drug stores all sell a selection; rates vary but for low usage there isn't much difference.

A German Fonic SIM can be bought for Euro 9,95 at LIDL right now, for instance.
