I have a tri-band mobile phone with Vodafone and am hoping I'll be able to use it to text my DM to reassure her that we are all still alive etc. every day or so!

However, I want to leave it switched off in the villa during the day, and not cart it round the parks. Does anyone have any experience in using a mobile phone in and around the Indian Creek area (behind Splendid China)? What is the reception like? Any other tips?? I've worked out that I need to get all calls to divert to voice mail so that I don't have to pay for those annoying wrong numbers and marketing calls.

My DM's phone is not tri-band, but seeing as she won't be leaving the country, this won't matter, will it?

Thanks

I am taking my Vodafone with me this trip (Orange previously). My one piece of advice is to change the settings on your voicemail to send you a text instead of ringing you when a message is left.

I can only answer this bit of your question;)

I text messaged somebody while they were staying in DTD area with my non tri band phone and they received it with no problems.

No it doesn't matter if the person you call or who is calling you has a triband.

Never really been anywhere that hasn't had a good reception. Even in the Everglades it was nearly full strength so India Creek I would think would be fine.

Don't forget to call Vodaphone and ask about the international travellers service. It lowers the call costs.

My mum calls me everyday, even has the cheek to call me before boarding the plane to say ' call me when you get there'.

She even tells me to behave myself, Christmas Day I called her from DC and that call alone cost me £20 - it was for about 15 minutes though. She wanted me to describe what DC looked like!

Hi,

I work for Voda and you'll have no problems. Used to pick up Voicestream but know they are owned by T-mobile.

Good Coverage. Def divert your calls to Voicemail to save cost and ask about International Call Saver - £2.50 a month and can save up to 70% on incoming costs.

The website has been updated and can give you an idea what you'll be paying.
