Mobile ordering & Table holding

No, it is pointless to take up a table when you are not eating. I will add if the restaurant is busy. If there are a bunch of empty tables and no one wandering around with food looking for a spot, have at it. But yeah, it is very rude to take up a table and then watch people with food struggle to find somewhere to sit. I love it when Disney blocks off the dining area and doesn't allow people without food in.
I totally agree with this! If taking kids into line is a problem, then wait to the side or in the back of the lines rather than an empty table. Nothing burns my biscuits more than having trays of hot food and no where to sit due to table hoarders. Happened a lot during our trip last month. Rude and inconsiderate.

Because life isn't fair, you think you have the right to be rude to others? There is no reason you can't wait outside, out of the crowds with your kids until your food is ready. And before you revert back to the "my daughter has special needs", guess what? My DD has autism and other challenges. As a single parent to a special needs daughter, I am fully aware of life not being fair, but I do my best to be fair to others.
Yep - one of my kids has autism and has difficulty waiting. While it would be easier to sit at a table with him, I don't. First, it's rude and inconsiderate to hold the table, and secondly, it is a lost opportunity to teach him strategies for overcoming his challenges. The entitlement of table hoarders is astounding.

We just sit at tables with other people when it's crowded. We usually find people are more than happy to share as it's just the two of us. We also try to eat at off-times - after 1 for lunch, etc. :)

From what I've been seeing on vlogs and other people's reviews is that the food gets there superfast with mobile ordering.

If you had someone sitting at a table and they did the mobile ordering their food by all accounts that I have seen is there within a few mins versus people waiting in line to order, then order, then wait for food to be made. I would think you would have a greater chance of someone sitting at a table when they are going through the regular line than when they are using the mobile ordering (or at least sitting there for a longer period of time before the food is ready thus potentially taking up the table for longer).

IMO the title of the thread is trying to link something new to overall guest behavior when I highly doubt mobile ordering is all of a sudden causing a huge issue. Obviously this guest behavior existed long long long before mobile ordering. (ETA: reread the OP and realized they were asking if Mobile Ordering helped table holding not trying to say it's made it worse lol :coffee: has not kicked in yet :o.)

I'm guessing if people are seeing a huge resurgence in the issue it's more due to how Disney is policing or not policing the tables for lack of a better descriptor not mobile ordering. (ETA: see above ETA portion).

Once at the quick service in France pavilion at Epcot, we couldn't find a table. It was pouring rain and lots of people with no food were just hanging out at tables. I found an employee, pointed that out, and told her if I didn't get a table, I would need a refund on all the food I just bought and now couldn't eat. She found us a table.

Of course it's wrong to sit without food and take up a table, and I think people who do it are selfish and low-class.

It also completely gums up the works because the correct way for the system to work most efficiently is for people to eat their food while you are in line and vacate when you get your food because they have finished eating. So if you are in their table when they should be eating, they have nowhere to eat and it starts a logjam. If your child can't wait with you in line, then one parent should wait with them outside or somewhere else while the other orders. To assume the rules don't apply to you is just trashy, in my opinion, and people like that cannot be trusted because they are usually cheating the system in other ways, as well (both at WDW and in real life).

Wow, it is threads like this that remind me why I do not recommend Disboards to people going to WDW for the first time. The judgements of both sides are practically juvenile with just about name calling.

I dislike not being able to find a table when I have food, but I also know that sometimes it might be necessary for a family to sit down while the food is coming. I have sat my party before ordering food, but not during times when people were walking around with trays trying to find a place. Wait, there was once at Pecos Bills, but only because no one would go up the ramp. Our group went to the second level and took a table in the far corner to start feeding the kid that would not be eating WDW food. We tried to tell people on the main level there were all kinds of tables on the upper level, but hardly anyone came up there. The entire time we were there, only about half the tables were used.

The one good thing about this type of thread is that I know which users to mark as "ignore" and I welcome many of you to do the same to me since I could care less if you judge me or not.

But I learned so much over the summer you guys will like this have dh wait in line even though he won't be holding his own try

So what's life like on that high horse?

- Was at Disney two full days eating mostly QS.
- Had used mobile in Pandora early this summer.
- Used mobile this week.
- CMs at Colombia and Cosmic said to guests "Mobile order! It's great! Find a table and then place your order!"
- Colombia Harbor from order to table 7 minutes.
- Cosmic Rays from order to table 4 minutes.

We got our food faster than we would have stood in line waiting to order. The more that do mobile, the faster the tables will turn.

It seems that while polite people are waiting until they get food before taking a table, this exercise in politeness (though probably quite self satisfying), is still leaving many without tables at which to enjoy their food. It makes me wonder how many formerly "polite" people turn to the dark side after being victimized a time or two by being burned by their own innate goodness. Sort of a "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" sort of a thing. I don't know, I'm just saying'...

The thing is, if everyone would wait to have their food before sitting finding a table would not be a problem. The tables would turn over much faster meaning more tables available.

It is the rude ones who sit who mess it all up.

Life's not fair. I won't take a table when I am with a group of adults or older kids, but will continue to do so when I am with my 4, 4 and 5-year-old. My daughter is special needs and cannot stand among crowds and wait. She will have a breakdown, which doesn't happen if she's at a table. If people want to take any extra seats at our table, by all means, go ahead.

Not an excuse - I just don't feel bad for doing it. You take your small child into line with you because you often travel alone with him. You don't have a choice, as you can't leave him at a table alone.

So unless I am going to get my stroller tagged as a wheelchair (which we can do) so I can bring it into the line, I am leaving my kids seated with my husband while I get their food. And as I said before, we rarely eat QS for this reason.

But you are making excuses. It's the "my kid has special needs" excuse. Guess what, my kid has special needs too and I DO have a choice on how I'm going to negotiate the parks as best I can to accommodate him WITHOUT imposing on others. If my DH were traveling with me, I STILL wouldn't hold a table. As I said, QS became too difficult for us (buffets were as well), so we just didn't eat at them until he was old enough to negotiate those spaces more independently.

Because life isn't fair, you think you have the right to be rude to others? There is no reason you can't wait outside, out of the crowds with your kids until your food is ready. Believe me, I get it. I'm just wondering if people give up on doing the right thing after being burned a time or two.

It was fun at a Costco as I only had a hot dog and soda and there were no tables and several people were just sitting there with nothing. I just stood right next to a guy facing him eating the hot dog practically over him. When a table started to open up he started to point towards it but I said "I'm good" as I knew someone else would need it. Then a table opened next to him and I sat facing him. I sat and when he looked over and made eye contact he just up and left. He seemingly had no cart/food/any one else with him or he just left them all behind. I enjoyed it more than I should have.
