Mobile order vs waiting in line

Personally, I can't stand the mobile ordering process and wish Disney would scrap it altogether or at very minimum, make it a secondary option rather than a primary.
I agree with you... I do not want to be on my phone!!!! We are not from that generation ...meaning we don’t live on our phones. We were there in October and half the time my phone did not work with the app. I wanted to throw my phone at the person who thought of this . I get it ,there are people who love it... so just have a line for us that do not love it.

I think as you can see that implementation and outcome can vary greatly from day to day, hour to hour and location to location. I liked it when it first started, then hated it over the next couple years as it became very glitchy even telling me restaurants were closed that I was literally standing in front of and knew it wasn't.

Had issues with it last summer, only used a couple times in fall. This week we did walk up on one day, but used it the other days for food. I didn't used it at all for snacks but chose to wait in line. We used for snacks last summer and the waits were very long so it was pointless.

CHH - waited about 5-10 minutes after it said we could enter to pick up for our food.
Satu'li - waited about 3-4 minutes after it said we could enter.*
Pinocchio - had to wait 20 minutes before we could even check in, then waited about 5-10 minutes once we were at counter.*
York Fish - only had to wait just a couple minutes once it said ready.

* These locations we were not allowed to enter without showing our phone that said to enter.

One thing that is a big downside is that I like to look at other people's food before I order because you know most the time what we get doesn't look like the pictures. At least if I saw a couple things I ordered, I would probably have changed my order especially given cost. We had planned to eat two meals in parks, but ended up only doing one, easier to leave and grab some dinner.

What if all I want to get is a $1 cup of plastic cheese from Casey's. Do I really need to mobile order such a simple single item? Or am I better just doing walk up?

I'm just back and mobile ordering was a MESS. Waits were 40-60 minutes and IF it was ready then..... We ordered for sleepy hollow before leaving French Quarter, got there and still waited 40 minutes. Noodle bowl place in Pandora was even worse.
Wow, that was a totally different experience then we have had.
If that had happened to us, I wouldn't be happy about it either.
any idea what walk up times were? Longer or shorter?

DEFINITELY do Mobile Order!
Hubby is a bit picky, so for one of our CS meals, we decided to wait in line so we could get him his grilled shrimp without spices on it. BAD IDEA!!! It took over a half hour to just get up to the register to place the order. (Even though the line looked short!) After that, I told him he wasn't allowed to make any changes to the order and that he had to take the CS meals as they were listed in the menu. (TS restaurants can cook things to unique specifications, but not as easy with CS.)

I wanted to add that we used Disney gift cards for ALL our mobile orders. It wasn't that big of a deal to enter the numbers in each time. Worked great.

You mobile order consider it the only option. There is no good reason to wait in line at this point.

If they even really allow you to just walk up.

It’s way better than stranding in a line in my opinion

I have a thousand other things to stand in a line for for a week- so having a chance to “skip” one without a genie helping me is great.

How does it work? What time to you have to order? IOW, if I want to eat at 11:30, do I have to enter my order at 7am in order to get my slot? I assume their are "slots". I don't want to plan lunch before noon and only see times for 4pm ;)

Open your MDE. Click the plus sign and go to "order food" You'll see all the restaurants you can order at currently, along with the time slots. It always shows you the earliest time slot but you can click "more times" and choose a later one.

If you aren't ready to eat yet at your time, just move it to a later time (or cancel it). It's one of the few Disney IT things that is actually easy :)

(We do mobile order multiple times a month and never order more than 30 minutes out and have no issues)
