Mobile Order and Mealtime questions

We are heading back to Disneyland in June. We haven't been since 2018. At that time I think we only used mobile order once or twice and just walked up for every other meal.

This time around, will we need to mobile order to avoid super long waits? Or will it still be possible to just get in line places to eat around mealtimes? (Side note - we ONLY do quick service.)

Using mobile ordering, are we unable to customize things? For example - I always like to get the chicken fusili at Pizza Planet...but I get it without the chicken on it. Also, a few places in the parks offer spaghetti for kids and my son will likely want NO sauce or maybe sauce on the side. I'm assuming that isn't possible to request in the mobile ordering but thought I'd ask here anyway.

Any mealtime tips or tricks I should know? I feel like the parks are just going to be way different than I'm used to pre-covid/pre-Genie, etc.)

This might not be a helpful answer, but... it depends. For example, we had lunch at Flo's in DCA and did not mobile order and the walk-up line took FOREVER (i truly had regrets). But, a different day, I did walk-up at Smokejumpers and it was quick and easy. (Also, some QS places don't have mobile order at all, so like I went to dinner at Rancho del Zocalo one night and it was as quick and easy as it always has been.)

As for modifications, it's also hit and miss. Like, with burgers it will allow you to take off the sauce, but there are some items that it has no modifications available. My best advice is to play around with the app at places you might want to eat at and see what it does/does not offer. (Like, I just checked the app and it doesn't let you take the chicken out of the Fusilli on mobile order, so you'd have to do walk-up for that.)

I'm sure there are some more regular park-goers than me who can offer a better answer, but I've found just messing around in the app before I go helps me plan ahead and know better what to expect.

Just pulled up the app. There's not a way to do MO and request "no chicken" or such.

I've found MO to be quick and easy and rarely have much of a wait, other than maybe *right* at a meal time, where I might have to pick a slightly later time. As I'm writing this, it's 6:23pm and nearly every MO meal place has the pick up time to be within 20 minutes of now. A few are in the 7:00 o'clock time frame. I tend to have the longest "I'm here and ready to pick up my food" wait at Jolly Holiday (often 10-ish minutes).

I generally hate all things technology. I'm a people person and love interacting with folks. But...I really enjoyed mobile ordering at WDW last year. I thought the food was hotter and fresher. Maybe I was just fortunate though?

I didn't customize our family orders but I thought there was a way to do so under mobile ordering. I will give you this tip or trick. My DW wanted at Wookie-cookie at DHS Backlot Express. When I went to mobile order, it gave me a window of 1-hour out from the current time. I asked a CM at the front of the BE if I actually had to wait 1-hour for a cookie and she smiled and said no. She told me to complete the order and give me the mobile order number and she would push it through immediately. Now, I don't know what her response would've been for four meals for my entire family, but for small things you can ask the CM at the restaurant to push it through sooner rather than later. That was nice to know because I didn't think waiting 1-hour for a premade cookie seemed reasonable?
