Hi Everyone:
I don't even know which forum to post this question. A relative from out of state was visiting and has a friend who lives in a mobile park that was originally built/created by Walt Disney for employees when they were starting to build WDW. She said it's a really nice place and that she is considering buying there when a mobile home becomes available. She suggested we take a ride to see it - apparently it's on 535 - past Palm Parkway, but she couldn't remember the name of the park. Does anyone happen to know the name?
Thanks

There is a mobile home park off of 535 as you approach Apopka Vineland.
It is a 55 and older community.
Is this what you are thinking of?

She didn't mention it being over 55 - she did say it's past the Winn Dixie

Well I was thinking Snow White Village too but does it exist today in some form?

Wasn't that is Kissimmee? Off of 192?

I was thinking Snow White as well, but Disney didn't own it (they rented it for the CP). It's gone - I think there's a Wal-Mart there now? It was off 192 in Kissimmee ..

If its truly on 535 just past Palm Parkway you would be turning there (at the Ale House). Along that stretch of 535 is the Grand Cypress and it's environs. This is how we drive to our condo and nothing is jumping out at me as a mobile home park in that area.

It's possible there is something on Apopka Vineland past Palm Parkway (but that would not be 535) but again nothing is jumping out at me aside from the many small neighborhoods along the way.

Call your friend - get an address!

I have no idea where this would be. I've lived her seven years and drive that route on a regular basis. I don't remember ever seeing a mobile home park off CR535.

I have been trying to find the closest mobile park to WDW and ran across this one? Is it Hidden Valley? This is an over 55 community and it's about 12 mi. from WDW. If you buy a mobile home in a community like that, do you pay property taxes? You probably have to pay something like HOA fees. Does anyone know what expenses, other than the trailer itself, you will lave (I know, insurance is a given). I'm about 5 years from retirement (waiting to get youngest DS thru college) and looking for a cheap winter home that I can take the dogs with me!

Thank you for the replies. My friend was actually away so I'm going to e-mail her and see if she get me the exact name.

I do have another question for all of you who live in the WDW area. Can you tell me about the area as far as nice areas to live. We aren't looking for anything large - probably a two bedroom with possibly a den as a third bedroom. At this point, we are just exploring options for either year round or winter months. We meet a couple in the fall who were purchasing in Poinciana. Does anyone know anything about that area as well? Thanks

Hi:
We did find the mobile park and it is Hidden Valley. I don't know the details about it in regards to fees, etc. However, we are going to check into it further along with other homes in the area. It is on the same road as Winn Dixie and not far from it.

Glad you found it.

It all depends on how far away from Disney you want to be. The further away you are the less touristy everything is, and fewer tourist driving. There's plenty of beautiful neighborhoods in Orlando, as it did exist long before Disney came along. There's also plenty of places that sprung up with Disney, but have since fallen.

Poinciana was hit hard with the economy. You can find dozens upon dozens of new development with every other house in foreclosure. Now Davenport is a bit more established area, and there are several mobile home parks. Some you own the land, some you rent the land. I'd also tell you to strongly look into the hurricane coding for mobile homes. Any new home being built had to be up to code, but there's very, if anything, that older homes had to do. Most mobile homes these days are almost on par with regular homes, so don't be discouraged by them, just look for newer ones.

Thank you for replying. We are actually just starting the process of looking at all different options from Mobile homes to regular homes to condos and areas. We actually met a couple our age who had just purchased a home in Poinciana. We are trying to learn about the area around Disney so that when family visits, it wouldn't be a long drive to the parks. Thank you for mentioning Davenport - that gives us another area to look into.

Well a year ago, my aunt was looking into purchasing a home there. One thing to note, you can not get a condo financed in Florida. Because of foreclosures and people unable to pay HOA fees, the buildings are falling into disrepair. Just because of the few bad condos, it's hurting the good condos. If you were thinking about any financing options. You can get a loan for a home or a townhome.

I personally enjoy downtown Kissimmee area, and further out 192 towards Saint Cloud, and off of Neptune Road.

My only problem with Poinciana is the way the roads are laid out. You're kinda stuck down there with nothing else, and then you have to drive 15-20 minutes north to get to more shopping options. Such as Target, Wal-Mart, department stores, restaurants. Same goes for Reunion/Champions Gate area.

There's a new shopping plaza called The Loop in Kissimmee, it's on John Young and Osceola Pkwy. I believe they've done a good job with it, and bringing life into the area. I lived just south of it, and enjoyed the area very much.

Hunter's Creek is also a very nice neighborhood with easy access to Disney (on the toll road). It's located just north of The Loop.

Just don't boast about living near Disney or you'll become the next bed and breakfast amongst far off relatives and acquaintances. And if you do decide to work for Disney part time or something, you'll become the next all-inclusive vacation resort.

You can still get condo financing in FL - it depends on the development - they have to be shown as sound developments.

I talked to a lady when I was at GF Tea Party about a mobile home park that had Fort Wilderness Style cabins. Anybody know where it is and what it is called? We got interrupted and I never got to ask.
