I was so excited about the mobile app from Disney that I upgraded to a Nokia smartphone from verizon. I will admit that I'm a little intimidated by the phone...I actually don't like it at all. Mostly because I cannot dowload the disney mobile app....and a couple of other apps I specficially wanted to be able to use. Apparently the windows phones do not allow you to download i-tunes (where you can get the appfrom), google play or the amazon way. Did I get talked into buying a stupid smartphone? I was really looking forward to using the mobile app on our upcoming Boardwalk stay. I WAS able to download it onto my KindleFire with no problem. Anyone have any insight into into a windows based smartphone? I did go back to the verizon store and they were not helpful at all. Like I should have KNOWN that you can't download apple stuff to windows. Thanks in advance.

iTunes is only for Apple devices like an iPhone, iPad, iTouch, iMac, etc. My Disney Experience app is only for iOS (Apple) platforms or Android platforms, or you can use it on the Disney website on your computer. They do not have a MDE for a Windows phone. Most apps are made for iOS or Android platforms, so you will probably run into this same problem for most popular apps. If I were still in my return window, I'd seriously consider going back to the Verizon store and exchanging my phone for an iPhone or an Android phone like the Samsung Galaxy S3.

You were able to download MDE on your Kindle Fire because it runs on an Android platform.

I have an iPad and Windows phone. DW has a kindle. I really do not like the Android system. I like the iPad and iTunes. I have really enjoyed my windows phone with its radio (not an app). But, Windows phone does not have as many Apps as the other two systems. If that is important to you, then you made need to see if you can exchange. I've had my Windows phone for over 2years now, and have enjoyed the ease of editing word and excel documents when needed.

Thank you for explaining this in terms I can understand. I think perhaps they were trying to unload these phones....I was discouraged from the type of phone my son has.....but his does everything I want mine to do. I am past my 2 week return time, but will go back again with some valid complaints and see what happens. I can't help but feel I was misled.

Thanks again. Maybe I'll have some extra nice things happen on our BW trip to make up for me being a little bummed about more or less wasting money on a smartphone. But if that is the worst thing that has happened in my life lately, then I am one lucky lady, aren't I?

Thanks again.

I don't want to change phones, but want something Apple for using all the Disney stuff (that seem to require it)... any suggestions?

You could get an iTouch. It's wifi capable, so you could use it in the parks and Disney hotels.

I do not own a Windows Phone device but based upon what I have read and seen, there are many things to like about the system.

Main problem is there just aren't enough users for developers to support Windows Phone en masse yet. It's a chicken-or-the-egg scenario; developers don't make WP a high priority since there are so few users, and without apps it's hard to convince buyers to purchase the phones.

iOS (Apple) and Android are the undisputed leaders now with the likes of Windows and Blackberry trailing.

If you are stuck with the phone, realize that most of the functionality of the My Disney Experience app is replicated in Disney's mobile websites. Open your Internet Explorer on the phone and browse to disneyworld.com. It should take you to the mobile site which is formatted for phones and other handheld devices. There you can perform most of the MDE functions. You can view park hours, make dining reservations, even see FastPass information.

Disney is supporting Windows Phone--I quickly browsed its app store and found their official apps for Disney Channel, Where's My Water, Toy Story and others. Before the whole FASTPASS+ system debuts at Walt Disney World, I suspect you'll see an official MDE app for Windows.

Our family is in pretty deep with Apple. We've got 5+ years worth of apps, videos and other content purchased through iTunes which is shared over multiple iPhones, iPods, iPads and Apple TV boxes. We're talking hundreds--perhaps thousands--of dollars worth of stuff. And personally I have no regrets about choosing that path. It's served us well for many years now.

But if I were starting from scratch today, I would definitely give Windows Phone a look. It will take time for their app store to fill out but there's every reason to believe Microsoft will put a lot of money and marketing muscle behind the product.

Agree.

You could pick-up a 4th Generation iPod Touch with 8 GB of storage space for around $100 used on eBay. For all intents and purposes, this device is an iPhone without the phone. It has two cameras, plays music, videos, games, etc. With a wireless internet signal--which is now available in the WDW theme parks and hotels--you can browse websites, read email, post to Facebook or Twitter, stream Netflix, use the My Disney Experience app and countless other features.

Tech specs on this particular unit are a little dated. But as long as you don't want to play the latest games with flashy graphics or load any massive video files to it (8 GB of storage space is pretty limited), this will work just fine. Bought one for my 70+ year old mother a couple years ago and she doesn't go anywhere without it.

A brand new 4th Generation iPod Touch will cost about $200...higher price mostly because they are only made with 16 GB of storage now.

A 5th Generation iPod Touch with 32 GB of storage plus other enhancements (larger & higher quality display, better camera, faster CPU) starts around $300.
