Anyone here from Mobile, Alabama?

I've read a couple of DIS'ers are from that area. If I'm not mistaken, I believe stevenpensacola lives near there.

I am not from Mobile but about and hour from it. I live Summerdale.

Not from there, but have family there...One cousin lives in Summerdale, as a matter of fact! So I've been about a million times while growing up.

DH interviewed for a job with WPTY there, we really liked the area, but they didn't offer enough money.

Browneyes is right.....I live about an hour east of Mobile, but am fairly familiar with the city. I used to travel there quite often in my prior career.

Thanks for replying.

How is Mobile for raising a family. We have 3 little ones and are seriously considering relocating there. Currently in New Orleans-2 hours west, so not too far from family, but far enough that it may be difficult to get family help if needed.

But, I am interested in my kids growing up in a safe, family type place that is not too far from New Orleans. Was just wondering what you guys thought about the area.

I don't think downtown Mobile is a preferred place to live. I think most people who can afford it live across Mobile Bay in Baldwin county. This area is known as the Eastern Shore. Lots of pretty little towns over there.

Those who live in Mobile send their kids to private school if they can. Baldwin county has much better schools. Plus, you're a lot closer to the beaches!

I agree. Most members of my family live across the bay from Mobile, in Summerdale, Spanish Fort, etc. I do have family in Saraland, and they still like it there, it is north of Mobile.

From what I have heard and seen, Mobile itself is kind of dirty and run down, except for the historic districs. We did look at some neighborhoods over near USA, though...I'll try to remember the names of them.

We really like Baldwin County, but will probably have to live in Mobile.

I'm a cardiologist and have to be relatively close to the hospitals.

We like the Cottage Hill area, but still are not sure what to do as I have a very nice job here (yes, medicine is a JOB).

We will say some prayers and look for some Divine inspiration.
