I dressed up one year to please my niece (we were both pirates) but the other time I went, I did not dress up. I had a lot of fun both times, but I gotta tell ya - no matter if you dress up or not, the CMs are always gonna give more candy to the little kids than they do the adults! 
I don't know why, they just do. Fortunately, my niece likes me and shares!
