MNSSHP-Tips, Tricks, Secrets newbies should know (from the 2009 party!)

Does any one know when WDW might start announcing other special activities in October? I've seen in past years the resorts had special haunted pirate cruises for kids but haven't heard anything about them this year. Same thing with the haunted carriage rides at Ft Wilderness ... those are definitely done each year? How do you book it via the resort or the WDW-PLAY number? Thanks!!

They are already taking reservations for the haunted carriage rides at Fort Wilderness. We booked it about 3 weeks ago for October 30.

I'm curious if anyone's gone to this solo and what your experiences are. I'm going to have a night on my own on my October trip. Wasn't planning on doing the party this year as we just did it last year, but I love the MK at night. It's going to be a short trip, so if I go to the party, I won't have a night at DTD. Anyone with thoughts?

Agreed! MNSSHP makes the MK look absolutely GORGEOUS at night There's the color changing lights on main street, the moving gobos along the buildings...*sigh* I wish it was fall already

not sure if we are going...It would be our first time at MNSSHP and the only one during our stay is the first one 9/14... Not sure about all the changes due to construction or how they will relocate somethings (I do like to be prepared and know where things are ahead of time) worried about going to the first one

We are going to our first MNSSHP this year on our Disneymoon and I am soooooo excited!! I cannot wait! The one thing I am having problems with is costumes. I want something for a couple, that will keep DF cool (temperature wise lol), and won't cost an arm and a leg. Any ideas?

I never seem to get to the parks in time to purchase one of the shirts for the MNSSHP in my size. Does anyone know how to buy them in advance without being at the park?

You haven't been able to the last 2 years as far as I know. The first time we went, I had waited until the end of the night to get my shirt and I got the last one in my size. The CM actually went into the back to look for me. I had asked him what if they were out and he said I could have gone to guest relations the next day and bought one. They have more sizes, just may be out on that night in that spot.

hooray! i'm going twice during my vacation! what will be impacted by the fantasyland expansion in the last week of September? I've so far only seen that Pooh's Playful Spot and Ariel's Grotto wont be open.. but is Toontown still going to be there???????????????????????????????????????????????

I guess it would be cool to come in and see all of that stuff...but I didn't mind getting there early. To us, one of the coolest parts was walking out of the park after midnight with all that stuff still running. There was barely anyone around and it was super creepy with all of those affects.

I can see if you have kids and wanted to set the tone for them, but it's just me and DH so seeing it on the way out was cool for us.

Yeah thats what I was thinking too..... I think I might go with your idea. Late night, no crowds. Sounds kinda spooky... love it

We’ll be attending for our first time on Sept 21st and are so excited!!! I was having a hard time coming up with costume ideas for the heat (we’re outside of Chicago and are used to bundling up for Halloween) but I think I have it figured out now - DH, DS (3) and I are going as scarecrows and then my other son (will be 8mo at the time) will be our little pumpkin. I’m making the scarecrow costumes myself (easy and will be done with short sleeves) and then the baby’s pumpkin costume is sleeveless and short so I think he should be good. I tried coming up with a Disney theme but it just wasn’t working out.

Nope, they bring them out just after they open up MNSSHP and they do ask to see your ticket so have It ready.

I was really hoping things would cool down after sundown last year, but no such luck. We dripped sweat all night. The party was still really fun, but hotter than blazes.

Be prepared for anything, but the chances are September will be hot.

Just so you know even here in Sept it can get chilly at night. At one MNSSHP I was sooooo very cold - we had a cold night and did not even stay the whole time. Just don't count on it being warm after sundown. Might be, might not.

Just have to giggle at this....it has snowed many times either before or on Halloween here in the upper midwest (I am in Milwaukee an hour North of Chicago so I know the pp pain). I think it being a bit cool at night in FL won't compare to that!

I am with you I live in Denver... In Oct if it gets down to 60 there I will think its warm and still be in shorts!
