We have our regular tickets for Disney and planned on going to Magic Kingdom on August 15th. Then the MNSSHP schedule came out and the 15th is one of the dates. If we decide to splurge, can we do both on the same day? We're staying off site so don't want to arrive early, then leave for a while, and then come back at 4:00. Thought if we came early and then just paced ourselves in the afternoon, we could do the party at night. Our last time there, we stayed for over 12 hours on a regular day and rested the next day. Thoughts?

You certainly can do both but I wouldn’t. If you were not going back to your off site accommodations and want to do both, I would suggest starting at a different park in the AM such as Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios and then you could treat the MNSSHP like a hopper ticket and get in at 4 pm. Remember this will be an extremely long and hot day in August.

Agree. You can but I wouldn't. I would honestly rest up and sleep in and head over so that you are at the MK gates (not just arriving to the parking) about fifteen minutes before 4. There will be a line for those waiting to be let in for the party at 4. Get your wristband, trick or treat bag and enjoy the event and stay as late as you can. It is going to be brutally hot in August. Both an AM and PM park will be exhausting.

Also if adults (or anyone over 14) wants to wear a costume they can't until 4. I know not everyone dresses up but its a big part of the fun for many people. I wouldn't want to haul a costume around all day until 4.

You can, and there are pros and cons of doing so. Some have already mentioned the cons. The benefit though is 1) MK is often less crowded on party days because it closes early and there are no fireworks, so you may get more rides in. 2) The line-up to get in to MNSSHP can be quite long. You'll avoid this as you will already be in the park.

I would be very tempted to go to MK for rope drop and ride as much as we can, go back to the resort and recharge a bit and then head back for the party.

Afternoon/evening Thunderstorms are very common during MBSSHP dates so this option helps if you can’t get right into MK at 4:00.

We only did the party once and there was a terrible storm that kept us in our room until about 5:30. Seeing the bus line when it finally slowed, we were not the only ones.

If you want to enjoy both rides and party offerings, doing above on a party day allows a ride focus in the AM and party special events in the evening.
