I've been trying to think of costumes that me, DH, and DD5 can dress up in for MNSSHP. I want the costumes to be comfortable and easy to wear because we will be in them for several hours. I decided on Grease themed costumes. Hubby will be a t-bird and DD and me will be pink ladies. Do a lot of people dress up in non-Disney related costumes?

My hubby is going to dress as a pirate and me just in a spiderweb theme.

I think you guys will look awesome!

While it does seem like a lot of people try to go with a Disney theme, you still see a lot of different kinds of costumes.

Anything goes as long it is not too scary or inapproriate. You guys will look great! :goodvibes

Love the Grease theme. Everyone will look awesome! How about going to have photos taken at DHS at the 50s diner and the drive-in movie/Thunderbird.

You can only wear costumes at DHS during Star Wars Weekends, so that would not be an option, unfortunately.

When we were there on 9/11, we saw mostly Disney costumes but there were others. We saw several Marios and Luigis (from Nintendo), and other game characters. We saw a few Jedi, xmen, avengers, justice league, and other superhereos. Our costumes were Disney.

We wore non-Disney costumes. Last year my husband was Cobra Commander from G.I. Joe for Halloween, so for MNSSHP he just wore that costume without the mask. Almost nobody could figure out what he was on Halloween last year, but at MNSSHP last week, several CMs knew what the costume was!

I was the Black Swan because it's always way too cold at home to be a ballerina for Halloween, so I figured I'd do it in Florida. I got to wear a tutu and a princessy tiara but still be kind of scary! Well, I was too lazy to do the freaky eye makeup so I just wore a half-mask with black sequins and a black feather for some of my photos, but most of the time I kept the mask off so I was more just like a ballerina all dressed in black and not really very creepy.

Wifey did Lara Croft on year . She got more picture requests from guests than any other costumes we have worn.

When we went last year my son dressed as Luigi, we saw quite a bit of mario bros in the parks. It was pretty funny they were in the confectioners store and this girl and her boyfriend were there and he was dressed as Mario so she made him take pictures with my son. It was a riot!!

Have a great time.

One year my parents went as clowns. They said ppl loved them. I wanted the family to dress up as Scooby doo chars but both hubby and DD said no. :(. I have tried to persuade DD away from a disney costume but she us pretty insistent. She is either going to be Ariel and i will be Ursula or she is going to be Silvermist and i will be tinker bell. Good with your costumed.

DS and DH are doing Mario and Luigi this year. The girls and I are doing various Disney fairies.

I saw a group of about eight people whose MNSSHP costumes were horned Viking helmets from the shop in the Norway Pavilion, along with the plastic swords and shields. I think even the men in the group, or at least some of them, were wearing the version of the helmet that had the long blonde braids.

I also saw a group of three women who were wearing orange T-shirts with jack-o'-lantern faces on them. One was wearing a big green hair scrunchie to look like the stem of the pumpkin, one wasn't wearing anything else costume-y besides the T-shirt, and the third... was wearing a hat that looked like a cooked turkey. Because why not? I have no idea why a jack-o'-lantern would have a turkey on it, but if you've got it, flaunt it. :rotfl:

DS and I want to be super comfortable for our first party on 10/8. We're going as Penny and Sheldon from Big Bang Theory. I don't know if anyone will know who we are but we will have fun with it! We love doing Big Bang quotes.

We're planning on going as some of the crew from the show "Firefly" with a backup as Pittsburgh Steelers players in case I can't get the costumes put together in time.

I've seen pictures of a lot of people going non-Disney.

Yes, there are many people, both children and adults alike in non Disney costumes. There were many darth vader and Optimus prime costumes when we last went in 2010, a few spongebobs too. As far as adults there were many vampires, witches, my wife and I went as hippies and saw a few others as well. Saw a really good Buddy the Elf back in 2008. The only real restriction is no masks for adults.

A few years ago my BF and I went as Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley in their Gryffindor quidditch outfits.

Can you PLEASE go to the party on the 14th? My DH would love to see your costumes!! We're doing "real" pirates a night, the second night we are wearing our pirate costumes but DH with is Goofy ears and me with my Pirate Mickey ears and the third night our OSU/Michigan (my apologies for my DH...Go BUCKS!) We found very affordable, lightweight costumes at our local costume shop.
