MNSSHP Costumes???

Me and DH are going to the party at the begining of October. I wanted to know what the rules are for costumes. I want to dress up and really get into it, but I also want to be comfortable. Any suggestions would really be helpful!!

Rules are pretty much just no weapons and no face masks. Remember it will still be fairly hot.

I heard from someone from Disneyland that said that Disney Character costumes are not allowed. Is this true??

I wouldn't think you can't dress like a disney character, I have seen numerous pictures in signatures with dis characters.

We were at MNSSHP in Oct 04 and loved it, so here's what I can share from experience:
1) You absolutely can wear Disney costumes--two of ours did and we saw countless others! Characters love it and cast members play along...my husband wore a king cape and crown and everyone greeted him as "Your Majesty!" including Prince Charming. It was fun!
2) Comfort in the costumes is a must. We saw many crying kids and squirming adults with bad costume choices. Cute comfy ones I recall were the "bowling alley family" dressed in shorts, matching bowling shirts; 50's wear jeans, white socks and tshirts, jean jackets and poodle skirts;101 Dalmations with white clothes, black spots, collars and headband ears, and outfits made by accessories (like a cape/crown, suspenders/pocket protector/nerd glasses, cowboy hat/bandanna, etc.) Remember, you still want to ride and walk in comfort.
3) You'll have a ball! We'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Thanks so much for all the help!! We still cant decide what we want to go as. DH doesnt want to worry about it yet. But I've been trying to come up with something since he told me we were going. (Valentines Day) DH is a big Star Wars geek so maybe we'll do a Leia and Han thing. Or maybe Elizabeth Swan and either Cpt. Jack or Will Turner. I would like to dress up as a couple.

As far as weapons are concerned, plastic swords and the like are not a problem. I haven't done MNSSHP, but I have been to Pirate & Princess, at which I had a pirate pistol, and plenty of others carried pistols and/or swords. Just make sure it is OBVIOUS it is a prop/toy, especially with any 'firearm'.

Remember, they do sell plastic swords in the PotC giftshop.

We are going to WDW for the first time Sept 11-21st. We just got our tickets for MNSSHP and are alredy deciding on what costume to wear. I explained the everyone that it will be hot yet so we need to have something comfy and not a lot of material. (As I have learned from the Dis) DD 8 and DD 5 have decided they are going to go as Lilo... (hawaiin girls) Short 'grass' skirts and leis on ankle and wrist. I will be making these this summer. Will need to come up with something for DH and DS (16) They both said they would dress up! Any ideas! I LOVE the Dis... I am very new and have already gotten so much good info... but I think I may be addicted!

Hi,

If your DDs will be Lilo, how about if DH and DS are surfers? Tshirts and board shorts with slippers (flip flops)? They could wear inexpensive shell necklaces, too.


I'm trying to talk my husband into Bert the Chimney Sweep and our 3 DSs as little chimney sweeps. So far, he's not enthused. Oh, well.

I read a thread regarding this issue yesterday or the day before, where someone quoted what she was told by Disney in an email asking about this.

I will look for it, but is was something like this:
-no weapons
-no masks
- no Disney face characters if you look a lot like that character and can be mistaken as one

I love easy, light weight costumes for MNSSHP. The last time we attended, my husband, son and I wore our Incredible costume t-shirts during the day. When it came time for the party, my son put on his Ratatouille "costume" over his T-shirt and shorts, which was a Ratatouille motif chef hat and apron (intended for dress up rather than a costume) we purchased using Disney Movie Rewards. It was a complete hit! It looked very original, cost nothing, and easily fit into my tiny vacation purse.

This year I am thinking the Kermit baseball cap off of DMR to start off his costume. I can make a super simple T-shirt or tanktop costume as Miss Piggy for myself. I'm not blonde, but I detest wearing wigs. Maybe just some ears headband... Don't know if I could stand wearing a snout for hours either. DH is staying home this time.
I love character costumes that are less popular but more creative than ordered off a costume website. I don't think you need to go all out in something uncomfortable to have fun.

What is that term for dressing "in costume" but not really...wearing similar clothes as a character??
