We are headed to Orlando in September for a water park vacation. Yesterday my husband said he wanted to take our oldest DS to Universal we have discussed splitting up for a day as my younger son isn't tall enough for most of the rides and isn't the thrill seeker that my other son is. I am thinking that on that day i will take my youngest son to MNSSHP. I am not a fan of the new FP system and don't quite get it. If I order tickets can we do FP for that night? How do i go about getting them. Last time we were there they had just come out and i felt so confused by them. We are staying offsite if that matters.

You can get fast passes within the 4pm to 7pm early entry window (or earlier in the day too if you have a regular park ticket), but once the party starts at 7pm, the fast pass system is not utilized. I doubt you'll need fast passes anyway. Lines are pretty short, especially after fireworks.

I was wondering the same thing about the fast passes. The last time I was there (2011) you could get the FP from the machine. As our party night will be our only time at WDW we want to be able to ride the Seven Dwarves mine coaster at least once but don't want to spend a lot of time waiting in line as we have lots to do that night. We are also staying off site so if I did want to book FPs how do I do that and when? Or should I just forget about it and take our chances during party hours? We are going on Tues Oct 6 if that makes a difference, but I haven't purchased my tickets yet.

Have a great trip!

1. how do I do that and when?
2. Or should I just forget about it and take our chances during party hours?
3. We are going on Tues Oct 6 if that makes a difference, but I haven't purchased my tickets yet.

1. Exactly 30 days before your park date is the earliest.
"How to?" Booking and Modifying FP+ found HERE and HERE.
You must buy your tickets early (over 30 days before your park date) to do so.

2. No downside to trying.

3. See answer #1.

The only time we managed to do SDMT was during MNSSHP - the queue was non-existent and we walked straight on.

If that's the case then I won't worry about booking a FP for SDMT. I'll leave it for someone else who might not be going to the party. As long as we get to ride it at least once that night I will be happy. Worst case scenario we will save it for later in the evening. Thanks for your help!

Thats amazing. Our night last year, (October 9), was sold out, and the queue was 90 minutes long all night. At 7pm it was over 100 minutes. They were escorting the day guests who had been in line at 7pm when the park closed to non-ticketed guests out of the park up until Hallowishes.

Not sure if our night was sold out - we were there Sunday Sept 14th.

We did it later in the evening. I can't remind the exact time but it was definitely after 9pm.
