Hey #1hockeymom, care to join me in a hot fudge sundae? I'm just about to open my last jar of Bittersweet fudge from Sanders, I'd love to share it with someone who truly appreciates it!

HI! Sorry, I missed your location on an earlier post. Yes, it is.. I have been gone from Michigan for over 20 years now, but my DIL's always bring or send me a supply. The first year we moved south, we were at a fellow former Michigander's house for dinner-dessert was pulling out a jar and handing out spoons...we passed it around like it was an illegal subtance!;)

Since you appreciate it, you can join me, too!

Thank you.

We could also add Vernor's ginger ale and Stroh brewery to that list as well.

One of the best memories I have is going to Sander's on Outer Drive and Michigan Ave. in Dearborn with my mom as an end of school year treat. There was something so great about sitting at the counter, eating that delicious ice cream and hot fudge. Thanks for the memory and enjoy!

My grandma used to take me to the one downtown over by Hudson's when I was a little girl. We'd do a girl's only shopping trip and have tea/lunch at Hudson's where we'd both wear our white gloves, then at the end of the day we'd stop by Saunders!

Enjoy, Disney Queen! I have DQ in front of me and truth be known, Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream in the freezer downstairs!

PS WE almost always have Vernors in the house. Its the only thing that makes you get better if you get sick! You HAVE to have the proper medicines! :)

Yum! There's nothing like Sanders Hot Fudge! Do you have an extra spoon for one more fellow Michigander? :worship:

I had to go to that M place to buy more Estee Lauder. I MISS HUDSON'S!

Yes, travel bug, it is a LARGE jar and plenty for all. colesmom is bringing the Vernor's and Stroh's..we need someone to bring the Faygo..can you do that?

I have been in the Sander's shop on Outerdrive and Michigan Avenue. They also used to have one at Southland Mall, which is where my mom used to take me. And I remember going to Hudson's in downtown Detroit at Christmas with my mom, friend and her mom to see the floor with the Christmas decorations. Then we would have lunch in the cafeteria. No white gloves for us. The thing that sticks out most in my mind was when we went through the area for Santa, the elf handed our moms a note. On it was printed..."would you like to see the white Santa or the black Santa?" This was around 1969 or 70, and I still remember that...We were too old for Santa, so we just walked by.

I received an email the other day with old Detroit photos. My heart ached when I saw pictures of Hudson's and the BobLo boats.

I used to live in Trenton.

I send care packages twice a year to my friend in Orlando. She shops at DTD for me. I think it is a fair trade - lol.

My DH, who grew up in the Waterford area, thinks I am crazy because I am obsessed with a place called "The Hungry Penguin". It served fish and a thing called a zappy burger. Friday we would frequently get take out there. It was either on Michigan Ave or possibly Wayne Rd. It was a fast food place but had a giant penguin who revolved around on the top with a servers tray with fish on it.

I was just talking about this the other day and he was still rolling his eyes at me! *I lived in Wayne and Westland from 66-77, before moving out to Milford at the age of 11*

Anyone remember? Anyone know what was in that zappy burger?

How about I bring the faygo rock n rye, and superior potato chips!

You are a good friend...

We are heading up there for Thanksgiving this year. We will be driving DH's Ford F350 long bed pick up truck. That should be enough room to bring back what I need. Keep the list going for me...

Sander's Fudge (for me, only Bittersweet will do-I will go to 5 Farmer Jacks to find it!)

Vernors (For DH, I never really liked it that much)

Stroh's beer (do they still make it? They closed the brewery, didn't they?)

Faygo Rock N Rye (Thanks to #1HM)

Superior Potato Chips ( can you still buy them in a big can?)

????Help me!!

OMG, I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT ROCK N RYE!!!

need to go back and edit my list....

First it turned into Marshall Fields.. .then Macy's. To me it will always be Hudson's, no matter what mall it is in. I swear I cried when they started the tear down for ford field. At least they saved a wall.

Mackinac Island fudge
baklava from Astoria bakery in Greektown
Superior chips is long gone...
Stroh's brewery is long gone, but my recovery room at Detroit Henry Ford overlooked the sign back in 1985!
You need to get some little burgers from one of those greasy white burger places!

You are a good friend...

It's a fair trade. I also send her Zenders Chicken Seasoning.

Umm Disney Queen... Farmer Jacks is gone! Its no more.. bye bye...

Ok.. you also need Detroit chili company chili.. for your coney dogs!
Koegels for your hot dogs
... and please make sure to eat at Greektown and yell OPA!

You guys are making me homesick. We moved away from the mitten 30 years ago, and I still miss that stuff.

We used to go downtown every year and watch the JL Hudson's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Woodward, and as soon as Santa got there, we'd make a beeline out to my grandmother's in Warren for turkey dinner.

My mom worked at the Saunders' downtown when she was in high school, and we'd stop in there on our annual trip downtown for Christmas shopping until they closed it.

And who can forget: "When was the last time you had a good slug of a Redpop"?

And try to explain to TSA the 4 jars of bittersweet hot fudge in your luggage...
