MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

Robin, I've been forgetting to ask you how your morning BS is doing? I hope well. And your stomach, is it feeling any less fluffy? Are you still going gluten free?
I did get 2 of the davinci caramel syrups at Sams. They only had the caramel in s/f. I will go to Greensburg Sams and see if they may have other flavors. What does Kaluha taste like? I do like that you get twice as much syrup for the same price as Walmart.
I will have to try the minute bread. Everyone says it's really good too. I made a miracle muffin a while back and used coconut oil, and put in chocolate. You could barely taste the coconut and reminded me of a mounds bar.
Ok, going online to look for my recipe for soup. Planning to freeze some of it too. Should have picked up that crockpot at Walmart yesterday that was on sale. I have a huge one, but I was going to make everyone else chli, so I'll use it for that since I need more.
Did you find your stock pot? If you have an Ollies, they may have them cheap. I have 2 of them, but can't remember where I got them at. They weren't very expensive either. I'll try to remember where I got them. Also check out Goodwill. They sometimes have stuff like that ;)

Kathy: Are you feeling any better today? I hope you got to go out with your Mom. You deserve it and you’ll enjoy the change of scene. You can clean anytime! Go have fun! I bet your jewelry will be beautiful.:cutie:

Robin: Glad you had a lot of business, even though you had to work. Yippee, Ken’s coming home soon! I liked Kathy’s muffin recipe and I made a lemon poppy seed one with coconut oil. It was quite good with a bit of butter.

Sandra: Hi! Good to see you!

Nell: I’m so glad you had a really nice visit with your parents. I hope Marti is feeling better today. It’s wonderful how you felt so in control over the holiday. I am a bit concerned still that you aren’t quite eating enough. It’s ok to have more than one thing at a time around the clock. Can you add some egg along with the oatmeal and maybe work in some salads, etc? You are doing great; I just don’t want you to get weak.:thumbsup2

Diane: Congrats on the shopping deals! I’m jealous that your decorating is done! I’m itching to start! Pilgrims and Indians are on their way back to the garage anyway.

I lost two pounds! I was afraid to weigh even though I didn’t cheat, isn’t that weird?? Holidays are scary! I’m still on that average 1 pound per week. Very slow, but it’s happening!

Question for you all: Tom’s going back on Step 1 for 10 days. We don’t know for sure what he did wrong, but he’s not lost any more weight and he’s missed his timing or made ‘dumb’ mistakes with stacking due to not paying attention. He hasn’t cheated on purpose, but I swear if I’m not in his back pocket he can’t function. I guess it’s nice to be needed??? LOL!! OK, here’s the question: Do you think I should keep him company on Step 1, or stick to what I’m doing since I haven’t messed up?

J-P and I are trying to figure out what he can get his Dad for Christmas. Any great ideas other than clothes? I was thinking maybe another really nice belt since he’s down a size.

Hi Lisa. Was it Pony who said that Diane advised not to go back and forth between plans too often? You have been soooo good the whole time, I don't think it would hurt to do step1 for 10 days with Tom. I've been doing some form of low carb and kept up with research for probably 15 years and I don't agree with the opinion that step1 isn't healthy to stay on for too long. I've decided to stay on step1 through the holidays and only do a controlled cheat again at our family Christmas party. JMHO

Lisa, congrats on your loss! I am so happy for you!!!
I don't think it would hurt for you to do step 1. It's not like your yo-yoing back and forth. This is the only time you've resorted back to step 1 the whole time you've been on plan. I say if you think it will help Tom, then do it.
I wish I had your strength. You and Tom have done so well. I wish someone here was doing it with me. I think that is my main trouble. Mike gets the chocolates, chips, ice cream, all the no-no foods, and it's here in the house. If I had my way, it would all be in the garbage. So when I make a meal, I am making 2. One for him and the kids, and 1 for me.
I didn't meet up with mom. Just don't really feel like it after being so busy this week. Just need a down day or two. I just need to wash clothes :laundy: and pick up a few hot spots that I have been neglecting.

Good Morning

It sounds as if everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We did. The buffet we went to was lovely and we were able to pick what we wanted. No one noticed the absence of potatoes, etc.

I didn't go near a store yesterday. I finished my afghan - it only took about 12 years, but there was a looooong break in there!!!

Today I am meeting friends in Waikiki for lunch. They came in on a cruise ship this morninng.

I agree with Barb, following step 1 is not bad at all - especially with the amout of veggies allowed.

We got out Bob's Christmas shirts yesterday and there we some pants in the box that we had stored away, too. They were a bit too small at the time. Well, they all fit so the too big ones he has been holding up with a belt went into the storage box. If they are still there next year we will then Goodwill them. His newest belt is now too big so he will probably get a new one!! Great idea Lisa!!

The sun is shining in on me. Looks to be a lovely day.

Love to ALL:love:

Thank you all for the opinions and encouraging words! I haven't returned to Step 1 in the past, so I guess it wouldn't hurt me to get another break before Christmas and help the mister stay on plan. The things we do for love!:rotfl:

Taking J-P out for brunch. Our favorite crab cakes eggs benedict will have to stay on his plate. I'll get an omlette. Then we'll go look for that belt!

Very cool that Bob is in the same situation, Jocelyn!

Have a great day!

Hope everyone is having a great afternoon! We actually went to Best Buy and there was no line! Couldn't brave the crowds yesterday.

Tonight is our sushi date. Can't wait! Guess Step 1 happens on Monday after J-P leaves.

Robin: I remembered why I dismissed the Lee bootcut jeans - because they have pockets with a flap and button, which adds volume to the bootay. Might really work great for your skinny bottom half. I don't need any extra real esate in that vacinity! I am so glad I watched that Oprah on perfect bras and jeans. I know I've been going on about it! I did find it really helpful. The 'girls' are finally up where they belong and fit nicely within the uppers paramaters of my cross-over tee! Gives me more room for an actual waist, lol! I can see a difference today. The back fat is going down! I used to be grossed out by that - how did I end up with so much of it??? Thank you, MM!!!

Have a great evening!

Checking in quickly before my lunch break...fairly busy but not crazy.

Kathy - I have decided to ignore my morning blood sugar for a week or so...it hasnt gone down any since trying the gluten free, nor has my belly! So I am still trying to go lighter on the gluten products, but obviously that wasnt my problem! Checking my sugar so often is making me nuts, and it is fine every other time i check it during the day...didnt matter if I ate a middle of the night snack or not either...it just goes back up in the morning when I start with the step 2 carbs. :confused3 I checked Goodwill the other day and our store is darn near EMPTY of anything but short sleeve summer tops, and shorts!! Virtually everything winter, long sleeved, etc is just totally picked over, and the non-clothing area is bare bones...guess alot of folks are doing their shopping there!

Jocelyn - congrats on finally finishing that afghan!!:thumbsup2

Lisa - Unless Tom needs you to do step 1 with him, I cant see why you would want to go back yourself...it will just confuse your L and P for no reason, then you will have to go back through the step 2 bloat and the 5 weeks of re-adjusting it took before you started losing again! :confused3 Of course if he needs you to, thats another story! Way to go you for losing another 2 lbs!! I have been looking forward to week 5 and hoping I will start to see some losses by then...Dont forget too, that Diane says there is no stacking on step 2, so how is it that Tom has messed up? If he was going LONGER than 5 hours I could see it, but if he is so-called "stacking", then that shouldnt be a problem. She said you can have up to like 8 11-20 in a day, plus the two free 5x5.

Barb - I agree that step 1 shouldnt hurt us...especially with people on Atkins for long periods of time...I think she just doesnt want us to keep yo yoing back and forth between steps every few weeks, as it will throw the L and P into that hyperdrive mode, where they are just spewing glycogen and bagels. My understanding is that it is that erractic eating we used to do that caused us to get to the point we were before starting the Plan.

Just my opinion...not that its worth much!! :)

Hello everyone. Just wanted to drop in. Sounds like everyone's a little busy enjoying family and friends. I'm enjoying my daughter before she goes back to school tomorrow. Today wasn't bad. I helped my sister move and lost track of time and forgot to eat my 11/20, but I got something in as soon as I realized it. Well about to go to the movies...girls night out (me, my sister and my daughters). Have a wonderful MM evening.

Sandra

BTW Lisa - My bottom half is FAR FAR FAR from skinny!! So those pockets would not be a good thing for me! I have to find a store where I can try some of these Lee's on and see what works best for me...would I find them at a Ross? I am so excited that we have a new one here, but it says discount so probably no Lee there. Maybe Kohls or Penneys?

Hi Sandra - glad you are having some "girl time" before your daughter goes back to school, have a great evening too!

Lisa, congrats on the weightloss! Question....did Tom have two mess ups in one week? I know I read on the MM board that Diane said you only have to go back to step 1 if you had three mess ups in a weeks time....two would be ok, but that third one will send you back to step 1. Just a thought!

ck to step 1. Just a thought!

Sorry Lisa this is a double post!

Ladies and Tom,

I took a huge leap of faith today and took all of my other diet books to the used book store :yay: I told hubby I won't be going back to try any of them ever again :woohoo: MM will be the final chapter in my WOE and WOL.

Pony, thanks for clarifying what Diane said about switching back and forth. Anyone interested in a very good background of the research that supports lowcarb eating, you might like "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taube. What Diane has done, has taken low carb one step further in helping us control our L&P by timing our carbs correctly. We now have the perfect recipe for health and weight control. :dance3: Ok, I'm preaching to the choir, I'll stop. I'm just happy today :)

Glad you are happy today Barb!!:) Something in the air you arent telling us? I am always interested to read about low carbing...just since the idea has evolved so much since Dr Atkins originally put it out there and the public took notice. The more they refine it, the better off we are!

Robin: Hmmmm, I didn’t know Diane said there’s no such thing as stacking on Step 2. He’s eaten an 11-20 upon waking, not worked out much, and then an hour later had breakfast with toast. This was because he confused his days when he goes to the gym with weekend days when he didn’t work out. And he has gone longer than 5 hours, while making a substitution that wasn’t on the list because he was in a restaurant and out of proper food. We thought he should go back because he hasn’t lost anything, which is weird for a guy, don’t you think? I really value your opinion and see a lot of sense in what you said about me in particular. I am doing really great and have no complaints on Step 2, so I don’t need to go back – just wondered if it would be selfish of me to not keep him company. Lees are at Kohls, Sears and I think Penneys. Even trying them on for size and not style at Kohls can help you to order what you really want from lee.com. I don’t think you’ll find the newer ones at Ross, but it’s hit or miss at Ross so anything can happen! I did get some terrific Jones of New York jeans at Ross for like a crazy $14.99.

Sandra: Yes, Tom’s mess ups have been mostly within this last week. Sleep deprivation! He’s been on call and working a lot. He was good about taking his food with him, but he ran out. He gets silly when he’s tired. It’s also a trap he can fall into. He gained a lot of weight with having the attitude “I work hard, so I deserve to eat what I want.” He says he’s over that now, but it’s scary – I don’t want him to fall back into old ways.

Barb: Thanks for your input, too!

Beverly: I miss you! What are you up to these days?

Kathy: Mike loves you so much and is so good to you. Do you think he could keep his treats in a place you don’t see so he’s not tempting you? I know for sure he wants the best for you from everything you’ve told us about him. Perhaps you just need to tell him what you need by way of support to succeed.

Did everyone take their Vitamin D today?

:laughing:No, nothing in the air. I think I'm just still in a Thanksgiving state of mind, thankfull for my family and friends.

Lisa - I will e-mail you the info from Diane regarding stacking on step 2 when I get home later, ok? That was a huge concern of mine when I began step 2 the first time, and she was very specific about it! I believe it was something like "stacking is a thing of the past on step 2"...Ill send it to you later!! Do you have any idea how much more Tom has to lose? It may be that the losses are slower as he nears his goal weight...men lose WAY FAST in the beginning, but I dont recall how much he needed to lose in the first place. You are so sweet to want to support him, but I doubt he will be a big baby and have a problem with you eating a few carbs while he isnt...especially for just the 10 days...but I seriously dont think he needs to return to step 1 at all...JMHO!!:)

Barb - glad you are just enjoying some happy family time!!:goodvibes

Off to the gym...ugh, I could talk myself out if it tonight very easily!!

Kathy, Christmas crafts sound like a lot of fun! Do you like scrapbooking? Maybe you could start putting one together of this Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up? I hope you have a wonderful day today and that the laundry and hot spots cleaned make you feel nice and satisfied.

It was chilly here too! It went into the 40's last night and stayed in the low 60's all day today. Right now at quarter to eight it's 55 degrees!

Lisa, I'm sure you are right. I'm a lazy butt. I need to make eggs to go with the oatmeal. Sometimes I do, just getting lazy. I'd like to make some broccoli soup again. What does Tom enjoy doing besides working Lisa? I know he is into health matters since he was sick. A belt sounds like a perfect gift though. Especially if he enjoys looking nice. Congrats on the weight loss! Your doing so great! I may look into those jeans. I could use some real estate in the bootay to balance out the hanging tummy!

Jocelyn a buffet sounds like a wonderful idea! With everyone putting different things on their plate, no one would notice what anyone else had. I'm glad you had a nice time!

Pony, what size clothing are you getting into? I'm much bigger than you, but maybe one of us has grown out of the size your growing into?

I second pony's point that Christmas isn't far to sad moms who's children are leaving again. It sounds so hard for all of you!

I'm back from a lovely lunch with my friends. I then took them back to their ship. We sat outside by the beach - it really is warm and sunny here today.

Kathy - I forgot to mention earlier that I got decaf espresso roast at Starbuck's a while ago.

Hope your sushi was good this evening, Lisa. There was a huge spread of sushi at the Thanksgiving dinner we went to, but by passed it in favor of sashimi and oysters. It looked wonderful, though.

Robin - hope you enjoyed your workout once you got to the gym. Is Ken in an area where he can call?

Safe travels for those who are returning to their homes after visiting with all of you.

Yay Barb!!! Good for you! That is right, you and all of us are done with dieting! The MM works! I get what you are saying with collecting diet books becoming a way of life. I've found what works now. Like Pony points out, there is nothing wrong with keeping up on the research. But what a relief to know we don't have to keep trying something else.

Lisa, is Tom almost to a normal weight? That would explain not losing. I think that meals 1 hour apart aren't ideal, but I know going without eating is more of what we have to worry about. Maybe he could have a carb free or 5x5 morning snack instead? That way he wouldn't be doubling up so close.
