MM+ never materialized?

It's interesting. Back when I used to participate in FP+ threads (before the utter futility of banging my head against a wall got to me), a lot of FP+ defenders would say that the Billion+ was not just wasted on FP, there's a lot of thing that are not obvious working in the background to make interactive attractions in the future or "FP+ is not the same as MM+" and we will just have to wait for the full roll out so we can be wowed by the magic of it all. I guess, FP+ and bands is all there will ever be and now the FP+ defenders are saying that that's all it was ever meant to be.

And nothing to do with what many say about DHS needing an overhaul and new attractions, and should be shuttered completely while they do that?
Part of the reason for that is because they just kept shutting things down and not bothering to replace them or making attractions a shell of what they once were. People were still paying money to go to the park which is really the only thing they care about in the long run. The problem is no attractions and an attraction rationing system just don't work. You can't limit what people can do while closing things down that would give them other options.

If MM+ had done what they hoped they wouldn't be adding anything. That was the investment they hoped would stretch out vacations and lock people into the parks.

Could it be that $2B later they finally realized that what the parks need is more attractions?
Absolutely and they created part of their own problem by limiting what people could do while reducing the other options available. I've said it before but the lack of vision and understanding the current companies leadership displays is just mind boggling.

You'll probably like this story.

I doubt my own memory sometimes, especially with things that I read on these boards (LOL), so I asked my daughter (the one who loves Figment), if PRIOR to our last trip, we ever saw a line for Figment. Nope she says. And I'm like - literally, there was almost never a person in front of us or a person behind us, right? Yep, she says.

So then I say, "On our last trip (FP+), was there a line for Figment?" "Yes," she says, "But we had a FP+ for it, but we didn't have to wait." In my head, I'm throwing my hands up in the air. Arrggh! Whatever was broken is NOT what got fixed.
I felt the same way when brother-in-law was excited about his FP for JC, PotC and HM. 3 rides that were basically walk on and yet now people are happy to have a pass that lets them walk on. I still feel the same way when people post about loving the FP+ for parades and fireworks. To each his own I guess.

On our last trip, BTMRR and Splash were desolate at rope drop - not because of FP+, but because of the mad rush to Fantasyland, and GASP - NEW ATTRACTIONS!

BTMRR/Splash area has (for at least the last decade, and longer) been virtually empty at rope drop.

We have for years and years been able to walk-on, ride, exit, walk-on, ride...
Splash and BTM repeatedly in the first 1-2 hours MK is open.

I agree with the premise that A&E and 7DMT are major new draws,
but I'd say that they have pulled from all of MK, not so much a direct factor in BTMRR and Splash at rope drop.

We never used to hit BTMRR and Splash at Rope drop for one reason.... with legacy FP they were always easy to access right after doing a bunch of other things we knew we couldn't FP later.

That is so true.

We would sometimes hit it at RD, if we RD'd, but only so we could repeat ride it, heck we even pulled FPs for it the last couple years when paper FPs were available. And when they didn't enforce the return times ... oh glory days.

They could call it Downtown Disney International. :)

DHS could indeed be saved, but it may be too late for a lot of visitors like me, who have gotten tired of watching the park close one attraction at a time until it has become a shell of its former self. Seeing the snail's pace progress at MK and AK recently, any rumored improvements to DHS are a LONG way off.

I find it hard to get excited about bit Disney announcements of things to come. They usually get changed along the way and move at a glacial pace that sucks the fun out of any of it. Maybe my grandkids will enjoy some of this with me?

I'm still interested in seeing the announcements. It's funny, because I always say I'm a pessimist ... but maybe I'm not.

I'm still pessimistic about how fast anything will progress. But I keep thinking Disney will wake up from this weird dream and get back to business as usual.

YES! It is a successful day for many. But why should THEY define what a successful day is? And yet, that's exactly what they're trying to do. And they're pretty good at it.

I often think that Walt made a mistake in choosing Central Florida for WDW (sorry Walt!). Orlando is not a tourist destination other than the theme parks. It's flat, the landscape is dull, it's got major sprawl issues and the weather is unpleasant six months of the year. It is a tourist destination because of the theme parks yet WDW expects visitors to spend less time in the parks? It boggles my mind.

According to wikipedia Cars Land construction started in July 2009 and rides were tested in Early 2012. That's only 2.5 years. Maybe they could find it in them to work at that pace...? West Coast style.

You keep thinking that happy thought. :)

I'm guessing they'll open phase 1 just in time for the 50th Anniversary.

The first announcement was in 2007..so even DCA's reimagineering took 5 years from announcement to completion..

We had a different reason.....Who wants to get their butt soaked first thing in the morning? Except for the hottest days of the year, there is still a little chill at RD, especially if you are walking around with wet pants! By 10:00, the lines are still manageable, and the temperatures are a bit more conducive to getting wet.

I feel the same way! Great point. And there's so little else to do over there, it just doesn't seem like it's worth it to just do BTMRR when I could be jumping between low lines in other areas of the park at rope drop.

Yes, but I think that includes Buena Vista street and Carthay Circle. Basically the whole DCA entrance and then Carsland. DCA was a huge redo. Especially when it's compared to NFL.

That does include everything. I do believe Carsland and WOC were some of the first construction, if not the first construction, started though. We went to DLR in 2009, 2010 and 2011...the front entrance was the original front entrance in the 2009 and 2010 trips IIRC, but Carsland was under construction. Our 2011 trip was when we found the front entrance, Buena Vista street, as well as Carsland to all be under construction. There were a LOT of construction walls up on that trip. WOC had premiered though :)

That was never implied or said by me. But, the tech behind MM+ is not some unprecedented momentous endeavor that has never been done before in technology. All they are essentially doing is moving data around in databases. There are many companies that deliver very well on far more intense and complex data for tens of millions of users being interacted with and changed constantly (and in real time, I might add). They also don't have 2-3 year roll-outs or lead time. And if they don't deliver on things their executives discuss with reporters, they get killed for it, deservedly or not. Two or three years is a very, very long time in technology.

I'm always impressed every time I enter a tracking number into the Fedex or UPS websites. The results are almost instantaneous and I've never encountered an error. Considering they must be tracking millions of packages a day, they've really done a great job with their public web interface.
