Our family watches European soccer, DH especially enjoys the German teams. In his opinion the MLS is part of the European players' retirement plan. When the European players get past their prime and are about ready to retire, they come to the MLS to "wind down" until they fully retire.

That's no longer true. It was definitely the case in the late 1990's and early 2000's. If he watches the MLS teams tonight, he would definitely see how the stereo type has changed. As a side note, I fully enjoy European soccer just as much as our domestic league. Part of the World Cup being here next year is to have Americans and Canadians finally support their local teams and not just fanboying the popular European global powers.
