MLK weekend for Jan. 08

How busy is MLK weekend at Disney? Planning on going January, '08 over this weekend. Thanks.

We were there for MLK week-end in 2006. It was more crowded, especially during the week-end days. Later in the week, the parks cleared out nicely. Of course, there are lots of rehabs during that time, too. We've missed Buzz and Test Track and other rides like it by going that time of year. Nonetheless, we are going again in January 2008, too, starting Saturday before MLK and leaving the following Saturday for our first trip home. For us it is worth the tradeoff for lower crowds as DH doesn't like to go when it is hot or crowded.

I will be interested to see what other have to say as well.

We were there a few years ago over MLK weekend. The parks were more crowded during the three day weekend. The parks had no one in them the Tuesday after the holiday. Even though the parks were a little more crowded, it was still more off-season then other times of the year.

We usually go for 2-3 weeks in Jan, and since the MLK holiday generally falls somewhere in there, we've learned to make reservations ASAP if we want a specific villa. The 3 "littles" seem to be booked up sooner than OKW and SSR.
As far as crowds, in our experience, MLK and the Marathon weekend are about the same.............higher than the rest of January, but not impossible.

We really enjoy going in January due to lesser crowds. We have never been over MLK weekend before but next year the schools have several days off this weekend so I guess we will give it a try.

Do you think I'll still be able to reserve a 2-BR villa at BW- the standard view at the 7 month period, if not than I guess I'll go with OKW or SSR. Still trying to figure out our trip.

MLK weekend in 2008 is marathon weekend! They have thousands of runners and family members there for that week which is why so many rooms are booked. Right now the 2008 marathon is already 50% booked and the half marathon is already 70% booked!! Have a great trip!

I just looked up the dates for the Marathon Weekend 2008 and they are for Jan 12 and 13th. My mistake, I should of made myself more clear our schools are honoring MLK day on Jan 21st. We will be traveling to Disney on Saturday, Jan 19th - Jan 24th. With this said, do you think we will be able to get reservations at the 7 month period.

We have been the past couple of years over MLK week and it is also a National Cheer and Dance College Cheerleading week and there are always conventions going on at that time too because the resorts are usually full. But the parks are not too bad if you go early and use fastpass.
