MK - What's your go-to 4th FP?

I'm curious, for whose who utilize 4th FP at Magic Kingdom often, what's your go-to attraction? What do you cross your fingers is still available mid-late afternoon?

I've never bothered picking up a 4th FP myself, but I'd like to add this to my strategy for next trip and I am curious what has worked out well for others. :D

We grab whatever is available and then change it via the app on my phone. We've found that the app shows more availability than the kiosks. At MK, we often get 3-4 additional FP. Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, Little Mermaid, and Buzz are good choices for additional FP.

Thanks, that is really helpful to know about the availability on the app!
I'm hoping to 4th FP Jungle Cruise and/or Talking Mickey (even better!) — is there usually some availability there?

We didn't see Talking Mickey available as a 4th. Usually Pirates, HM, Mermaid, IASW, Jungle Cruise, Speedway. We saw Space too, but again, we just got back (low season).

I pick whatever comes up with a close time. That way, we can keep adding more as they last.

We pick what ever headliner we haven't done recently that is available. We have hit Buzz, HM, Pirates, Splash, Indy cars, BTMRR Jungle Cruise, Space at different times that way.

Jungle Cruise, Pirates (if open, it hasn't been twice when we've been there in recent times), PP if early enough (sometimes overlapping)

Wow, that stinks. We really don't like to bring our phones in but I guess we will and will use them if we have to.

You don't have to. We always just keep what we get from the kiosk.

But for what it's worth, I can't imagine not taking our phones. They come in really handy sometimes. Just because you have your phone doesn't mean you need to use it.

We got Talking Mickey as an extra, but we were booking our 4th in the 11am hour and the return time wasn't until late afternoon. However, that suited us fine, as we were taking a mid-day break anyway. We consistently saw regular availability for the ones mentioned above - Haunted Mansion, Buzz, and Jungle Cruise were our go-to's.

I didn't know the app showed more availability. That's a great tip! The last time we were there, the only thing showing on the kiosk was the Speedway late at night and we were like, no thanks. (This was the early afternoon.) I will definitely just grab it next time and try to swap it out on my phone.

Yeah that is really bad, all availability for everything should show up on the kiosk

I don't think it is so much that availability doesn't show up on the kiosk, it is that things change a lot as people move or cancel FP+. We actually cancelled our A&E one day in the park around 11:00 a.m. because we had already seen them and wanted to get a different FP+ instead of seeing them again. I'm sure someone was thrilled to pick those up. Different things pop up all the time as people switch things around for one reason or another.

We have found the 4th FP+ can be useful at MK, and that you can even go beyond that. As far as the choices, it really depends on what is available. Usually, we take whatever we know has a long line; is available soonest; and is something we know we want to ride. Once we do that one, we try for a 5th, etc. BUT, If there was a FP+ we really wanted that was hard to get, like 7DMT or Peter Pan, and it popped up for a 4th, but was significantly later in the day- we would grab it and stick with that one. It is always worth checking on a 4th at MK even if it is mid to late afternoon as you can get some decent ones (unlike EPCOT or DHS where in our experience it is typically fairly useless to try to get a 4th at all).

HM, PoTC or Jungle Cruise are my go to's for a 4th.

Last time I just skipped it - the kiosk lines were longer than getting the standby for those 3 rides. It was strange.

That's a great tip, to judge the length of the kiosk line with the wait time for what you want to do! Thanks!

Not necessarily. Oftentimes the line looks a lot longer than it really is. I have never waited more than 5 minutes no matter how long the line looks.

I will never forget the time that we got in line at the Fantasyland kiosk right behind another couple. The line was pretty long - there were probably about 15 people ahead of us. After about 30 seconds, the man said, "I'm not wasting 20 minutes in this line!" and stomped off. Within a few minutes, we had our fastpasses and were done.

I used touringplans.com to create personalized touring plans so I'm going to try to grab something that is on our touring plan that has a longer estimated wait time as an additional FP. However, we are FP+ rookies so I haven't tried this in practice yet. We'll stay flexible with our plan based on what we can get as additional FP but we will still try not to criss-cross the park.
