Marceline to Magic Kingdom vs. Keys to the Kingdom - compare and contrast


$30 vs. $80 (includes $10 lunch at Columbia Harbor House)
3 hours vs. 5 hours

Trying to decide which tour to take. I've been to MK enough that I don't have to just go on the rides. Would like more information about Disney and the park.

Are these two distinctly different tours, or is there overlap? I'm wondering, what if I go on the shorter tour, the later take the longer tour. Will the base of the tour be the same?

I'd love to hear from people who have been on both tours. What do you think.

I have not done the Marceline to Magic tour but I did the Keys to the Kingdom and my tour guide said every KTK tour can be totally different based on your guide and the questions people in your group ask. I know you go on Haunted Mansion on both but on KTK we got info/facts before we went on it and then just rode it with the general public and I *think* I read that you get to go behind the scenes on the MTM tour. KTK seemed to be more info about each area of the park and a lot of backstage stuff and I (again) *think* MTM is a lot of info about Walt and the history of Disney. I loved KTK and immediately after the tour I said I wanted to do it again next time but the more research I do I think I would like to try the MTM.

Also wanted to add that KTK is for ages 16+ and MTM is 12+. Not sure if that makes a difference for you

The two tours are very different, both excellent. Marceline, MO. was the boyhood home of Walt Disney. The tour uses the theme of how the small town made an impact on Walt which carried over into the the parks. Fans of HM will LOVE MTMK because of the backstage tour, you'll also see a private showing of COP which is fun because your guide will point out details you likely haven't noticed, and give the history of the attraction. You'll catch some other attractions too and learn more about them. KTTK is much more encompassing, with a general bit of history and background on many attractions, and how they operate the park (Utilidors for example.) I don't think you'd find a great deal of overlap between the two tours other than perhaps some basic WDW park history. I wouldn't think anyone who is interested enough to take two tours would object to whatever repetition there might be.

I'm personally looking forward to MTMK. You're still getting a great tour experience for a better price and more time left in your day for your WDW wish list.

Marceline is a look at the park through walts eyes. Keys is how it was made, how the magic happens and how it operates. Very different tours and tiny overlap. An example is main street. Keys looks at the little details to make it and the castle look larger. Marceline looks at the street walt fell in love with and flags on every building.

You'll most likely love whichever you pick. If you've never done a tour, save some money and do marceline first and keys another trip. If your a how it works behind the scenes group, keys is the better choice for first and do marceline the next trip.

My husband and I enjoyed Marceline to Magic Kingdom. It was just the right length. Good information shared. Good price, plus we got an annual pass discount.

Maybe later we'll take the longer tour.

I've been evangelizing about the MTMK tour for quite a while, so I'm loving seeing the comments from folks who tried it and liked it.

I've read that you typically ride JC and HM in the Keys to the Kingdom tour.
Do you ride anything in MTMK tour?

Snowybelle it's been years since we did KTTK, I don't recall which attractions were included. On our MTMK we did HM, Peter Pan, Pooh, and COP. Pooh broke down during our ride and we were evacuated (bonus!.) Pan may have been a "make good" for Pooh failing.

I did KTTK a few years back by myself, and MTMK last month with my 12 YO. I never thought I'd say this, but I think, for the money, I actually liked MTMK better! Given that KTTK includes time for lunch which eats into your time, MTMK didn't really feel that much shorter.

Also, we are big Walt Disney nerds, (my daughter actually came in second in our region for her speech on Walt), and we learned a lot of new information and heard new anecdotes. And, while going down in the utilidoors on KTTK was very, very cool, the "backstage" part of MTMK actually felt cooler to me as it was in an actual ride!

Either one is great, though.

I do think if you have some interest in the life & times of Walt Disney the MTMK tour is more enjoyable.

I really really enjoyed the Keys To The Kingdom tour when I took it. It was amazing!

To add to the magic is that me and (then) BF were the only ones signed up for that day.

So we had our "private tour guide" for the whole day. And we had barely walked out from City Hall when the CM and I started talking back and forth, much more so than just him telling about the park. And he quickly realized that we were Hard Core Disney Fans (read: freaks! *LOL*) so he changed the tour accordingly, and the in depth experience and personalized service we got was unlike anything I could have dreamed of!

I noted his name, it was not so common American. And I just couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him next time - Because that was at Guest Relations at Disneyland Resort Paris! Just a few years later.

I asked if he remembered that day back in 2005 - and he did. He remembered my name and my (then) BF's name too. Plus some other specific topics and jokes from the tour. So he was not just being a polite CM in character!

What a great guy!
