Is there a direct way to get from the MK to Downtown Disney?

No. A connection at a resort is necessary.

Sometimes one of the legs can be done on foot (no pun intended). Often suggested is walking (about 12 minutes) past the Magic Kingdom bus stops to the Contemporary Resort and taking a Downtown Disney bus from there.

No, it was ended because too many people were parking free at Downtown Disney to go to the parks. So they made it a little harder by not having direct.

To make it more fun, you could also take a monorail or boat from the MK to any resort (except Ft. Wilderness), and catch the bus to DTD from there.

And in case you were thinking it, no, you can not get a bus at TTC, either.

To add, there are no direct buses from any of the parks to DTD. A transfer is always needed, unless you opt to take at taxi.
