I have friends going to Disney for 1 day during Spring Break. If they want to make the Rope Drop show, how much time should they allow from the time the drive into the Magic Kingdom parking lot until official park open time?

Thanks!

Spring Break?

60-75 minutes. (Maybe more like 90 minutes, if they really want to SEE the Rope Drop show.)

Do you think this would be the same for the last week of March? I'd really like to see the show.

Also, MDE is saying MK opens at 9:00 the day I am going (March 26), but lists the welcome show at 7:50. Is this correct, or does MDE have the info wrong? It's not EMH has far as I can see.

I just checked MDE, and it's showing the welcome show being at 8:45 on March 26th.

Thank you, I think my MDE app is still a little messed up from before they did the upgrade on it. Mine still let me show 7:50am in "My Plans" but when I went to search again after reading this, it now says 8:45am as the choice for that day. lol.

Any idea what time I should leave POR to make it in enough time to see this at 8:45?

Leave earlier than you think.

If you're driving from POR, figure the drive to the MK lot may take 20-30 minutes (might be a traffic back-up)
and then, add the time it takes to get from the car to the monorail, the wait for the monorail, the trip to MK gates,
and the trip through MK security and entry gates.

It doesn't hurt to be "too early."

I'd just take the POR bus.
Be at the bus stop by 7:30AM.

Thank you! I think the bus is probably the best option. I know last time we went it seemed to take forever to get to the gate.

Stupid question, the buses take you to a different spot, right? Do you bypass the monorail when taking the bus? We haven't done the buses before as we always had our own car.

The buses go directly to the MK, not the AtTC. So yes, you bypass the monorail/ferry boat and just follow the sidewalk to the bag check point.

This is what I would suggest for any day. If you think you need an hour, take 15 minutes more (or even 30). For something like the only RD left at WDW, I would much rather be early than walking up as it's finishing up.

That's very true, thank you. :) I just have to work on getting everyone out the door early enough. ;)

I keep going back and forth about taking the bus versus driving from POR to the TTC. We have no problem waking up early to make RD. We will be checking into a non-Disney hotel that night, so we don't have to go back to POR unless our car is there. I love taking the ferry at night and hate the idea of waiting for a bus after Wishes. But I wouldn't mind bypassing the TTC in the morning.

Just a quick FYI to those Annual Passholders that do not have Magicbands yet and have to wait day of to make FP+ reservations:

While waiting for the rope drop show, there are castmembers walking around the crowd that can book FP+ reservations so that you do not have to wait in line at a kiosk once you get into the park. Take advantage.
