We were planning on going to MK on the Sunday the 23rd but just found out the Stars Wars half marathon is that day. It starts at 5 or 5:30AM. Should we avoid MK that day?
The course was changed from this year where the race didn't even come close to MK.For next year the race will start on Floridian Way near the TTC but the official course has not been released, all we know is the start and the finish at Epcot.Even if it were to go through MK the race starts at 5am,the earliest of any Run Disney race and most runners will be finishing in Epcot as early as 6:30 with the last runners finishing around 10-10:30,but at Epcot.
rundisney events don't impact the parks that much. they do impact the early morning travel on days when roads close for the multi-park coarse as they need to clean up after the race... allow extra time for buses and it's a good day to not drive yourself unless you know property streets to the point you can do it without much gps help. (again adding extra time to your travel to go around closed streets).
I just hope they don't overlap Star Wars Marathon weekend with the high school concert band festival again. Crowds last year were very high, higher than all our other trips this year, including Memorial Day weekend and July. The 2nd most crowded was Fall Break. The band kids impacted the crowds, not the runners. They tend to be out doing other things more than they are in the parks, especially in the mornings.
