I have NEVER been to the MK on a Saturday - we avoid it like the plague! :) However, I am thinking of heading over there in the p.m. next Sat (27th) since the park is open til 10:00. We'll be spending the day at a different park, but thought of going to the MK around 6:00, maybe having dinner at the castle (if there are any ps times available - haven't called yet since this is a very spur-of-the-moment trip), and then just meandering around the park until Spectro at 10:00. I'm just wondering what the crowds are going to be like. Is it going to be wall to wall people? It's just my DH and I (no kids) and we just basically want to walk around the park at night and soak up the atmosphere. But that won't be enjoyable if we're packed in like sardines :)

Anyone been there on a Sat. night in Sept? Will it be a mob scene? Our other alternative would be to stay at Epcot for Illuminations......

Also, there are 2 Spectros that night - am I safe to assume that the second showing won't be nearly as crowded as the first??

Thanks!
Kimberly

We are leaving friday for the world!! since that will be our last night at Disney, and the only night for Spectro, we too will be heading to MK that night.
I think i've read that the second showing is less crowded, but any time i've been there its been wall to wall. I'm sure this will be no different since this is the only time spectro is showing that week. We avoid Mk during the day and just show up for the fireworks and Spectro, we are going to do a water park during the day.

Have a Safe trip and a wonderful time!! We are staying at CSR. Julie from Pittsburgh

We arrive late on Sat. Sept. 20th. We should be getting to the WL around 7pm provided our flights run on time. There are 2 Spectros scheduled this night as well. We keep hoping we will feel good enough to shoot for the 10pm parade, but with two kids we aren't sure they'll last that long. My youngest is a night owl, but my oldest starts fading fast after 10pm. Our other option is to just hang around the WL and catch the EWP and then go to bed.

Saturday, Sept. 27th is the last night of our trip. So we have the option of catching the parade that night if we don't make it on the 20th. My boys don't do well in crowds. So, I'm thinking this may not be the best decision for our last night. We are thinking of going to EPCOT instead. We figure everyone will probably be at MK that night and we could have a very relaxing last evening at EPCOT. They wouldn't mind the crowds as much on our first night because they'd just be excited to finally be at WDW again.

We've never seen Spectromagic and I keep wondering if it's worth it. I'm one of those people who thinks that waiting a long time in a crowd rarely pays off. The rest of my family is pretty much the same way. So, I can't help you, but wanted to chime in and say that there are others out here with the same dilemma.

Spectromagic is fantastic. You are lucky they plan on showing it twice. On nights when they show it once, everyone watches it then stays for the fireworks. The entire parks tries to empty out after the fireworks. I've waited as much as an hour to get over to the TTC.

On nights when Spectro runs twice, many watch the first parade and fireworks then leave. We can typically get a front row seat in by the castle with only a 20 minute wait for the second parade.

Be careful where you wait for the parade. It leaves from the end of mainstreet near guest relations and the train station and does not arrive in Frontierland until 20 minutes later. The further you are from the start of the parade, the longer your wait will be.

If you watch the second parade from near the train station, you can leave as soon as the parade is over. Most people will still be in the park along the route so your waits at the transportation will be shorter than if you leave later with the crowds.

There is another advantage to this location. One person can save seats while the other heads off with the kids into the stores as a distraction.

Have a great time!

bearzabout, couldn't agree more about Spectro; when that music starts up, I get a bit gulpy.

It's been a while since we've been to WDW, and I've managed to confuse myself. I know the parade route is Frontierland <-> Main Street; where does it start and where does it end? And does that change if there is only one showing vs two?

Thanks so much!

It only goes one way (from main street to Frontierland) for a reason. After it passes, people can leave the park without getting tangled up with people still waiting to see it.

We just did it this past Saturday. Saturday the 13th was the only night they were doing Spectro while we were at WDW, so we went for it. It wasn't too bad and it was quite festive considering that the rest of the week the parks were quiet (although nice!) I scoped out my spot in Liberty Square about 35 minutes prior to the parade and got a sweet spot near the Liberty Bell. Yeah, it was pretty crowded, but it was worth it to see that parade. Have a great trip!

Since Spectro is playing only one day a week you can pretty much expect a big crowd. The thing to keep in mind is that the MK is aware of this and they plan accordingly! Go to the second showing and enjoy! Oh, and if a Parade "attendant" asks you not to sit somewhere...try not to give them a hard time! It's for the guests own good! ;)

We also plan on doing MK late on Sat. 9-27. Going to AK late morning for lesiurely day, then PS @ Rain Forest Cafe for 5 PM. After RFC we're off to MK since it's open til 10:00. Hope no more hurricanes show up!!!!!!!!!!!
