Family going to WDW in mid-may. We have a 6yo daughter and 4yo son. Our travel agent and 2 travel books I read including the Unofficial Guide suggest waiting to go to MK later in you week stay. Suggest that children will compare other parks to to MK and be less excited about MGM or Epcot. We arrive late on Saturday and stay until late afternoon the following saturday. Was planning on doing MK on Monday and Thursday. What do people think about the idea of "waiting". PS- We may not be going to Epcot or will spend very little time there. Thanks in advance!

I know you said you'll be spending little time in Epcot, but I would take your kids there first. When I was younger, I loved Epcot and I know many children who really like Epcot now. Even if Epcot isnt their favorite park, it would be there first experience out of any of the parks so they would probably have fun :)

I have heard that Monday is a busy day at the magic kingdom, but have never experienced it bc I wait until later in the week to go to MK. I would think Thursday would be a good day though. We went mid may last year and it wasn't too busy overall. You might be A-OK with Moday at MK. :cheer2:

Good luck!

I understand this logic, but I haven't noticed anything like that happen with my kids yet. We usually make MK our first park. I think the parks are so different, and there are different *kinds* of fun things for kids at each one. My boys love things at all of them! They certainly weren't disappointed with any of the other parks after MK.

My boys love Epcot...there is so much for them to do there!! :)

I've read that too and I know when my kids were little we always started at MK. In July when we went with my brother and family for thier first time, although I've followed the guide books in many things, I opted not to take this peice of advice. I started in MK, to kids (of all ages) MK IS WDW!!! I think the first step someone takes in a park should be the "magic" of MK, on Main Street, with the castle right in front of them. The looks on their faces is priceless.

To make kids wait until the "end of the week" to go to the place they REALLY want to go to me doesn't make sense. We went the first day for EMH, did Space Mountain and Buzz first, then had a 10:00 reservation for breakfast at the castle. My SIL said, that she couldn't think of a better way to start the week. It was almost like my niece (age 7) had seen Cinderella, her main wish, and was willing to move on to all the other things we had planned, instead of whining the whole week about "when will we go to MK and see Cinderella!!!".

After that we did some more rides, and then I had planned an experience with the lady from "Gifts of a Lifetime". It was VERY neat. Now THAT"S starting things out with a "bang", and nobody seemed disappointed about the rest of the week.

We then went back to the resort for afternoon pool time and ended the day at Epcot with dinner at the Biergarten and Illuminations. We of course went back to MK for a different evening a couple days later and they got to "wander" around doing rides while we saved seats for them for the parade, so they were there a couple different days.

I thought it would be cool to end the trip in MK too, but that was our AK time and we had such a relaxing time in AK that day and our trip ended with the Festival of the Lion King and late lunch at Pizzafari. Everyone agreed that was perfect.

We just got back from WDW and we saved MK for last. I don't regret it...it was sort of the "icing on the cake" and I felt that we went out with a bang. It also seemed that it was fresh in my kids memory since it was the most recent thing we did. The kids loved all the parks though, they are all different and special in their own way.
I think you'll have a blast no matter what you decide to do. :)
