Hello! We are VERY new to all of the Disney World excitement and will be going to WDW for our FIRST trip in late August.

My qustion is....

Where do you recommend that we position ourselves for the Fireworks at the Magic Kingdom?

We have a 7 year old little one who will be pretty tired by this time as we are spending our first day at MK. We aren't sure if it is better to be closer or to be farther away from the crowds (we are staying at the CBR). I am sure that it is a "mad house" trying to get back to the resorts, so where should we go? How far "out" can you see the fireworks?

Thanks for all of your help!!

It is definitely a mad house getting out of the park after the fireworks. We have stood on the bridge going from main street to tomorrowland most years because you can see tinkerbell fly right over you right before the fireworks begin and the kids (and adults) get so excited to see her fly from the top of the castle into tomorrowland. Just look for the line and stand near it. She will be attached to that line. It is a great experience.

How about the beach of the Polynesian? DW and I watch them from there and it's a great show. You can even hear the music from the Poly. Don't forget to watch the EWP at the Poly at 9:00 pm.

baysblessedmom,

I agree with the other two ideas. If you're in the MK for the fireworks, stand on the main bridge to Tomorrowland under the wire that runs from near the top of Cinderella Castle to the top of a building in Tomorrowland. Tinker Bell floats down this wire before the fireworks. If you want to avoid the exit crowds after the fireworks, go to the Polynesian beach to watch (you can park at the hotel or ride the monorail there from the MK). Or if you want to splurge, call 407-939-7529 to rent a pontoon boat (or 407-824-2439 for the Grand 1 Yacht) with a boat captain to float around the lagoon and watch the fireworks from directly in front of the MK. You can even have the boat event catered with food and beverages!

I hope that the OP does not mind if I ask Steven a question here - How does the view from the fireworks cruise vary from the Poly beach?

We plan to be at the Poly for 7/4 to watch the FW after dining at OHanas. We have a FWorks cruise booked for 7/6. Is it essentially the same view? Just wondering if it's worth the additional cost for the cruise.

I just wanted to welcome you to the DIS baysblessedmom. I'm glad you found us and I hope you can visit often.

w8ting4pooh,

The view of the fireworks is about the same, although the boat takes you closer to the show. If you take the boat, you're treated to a cruise around Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, and the boat captain usually knows some trivia and stories about WDW to entertain you with. Plus you can have food and beverages and a more intimate time with your friends and family. So you're paying for more than just a good fireworks show if you reserve the MK fireworks cruise. The same concept is true for the IllumiNations cruise at Epcot, only the lagoons and sights are different. The IllumiNations cruise is more popular and more difficult to reserve. Have a great time!

Consider renting a stroller so if/when the 7yr old gets too tired, they can go in the stroller and you can make your way at a leisurely pace out of the park. It is always so nice to leave after the main crowds and see the Castle all lit up and Main Street as well - sometimes we just sit by the Castle and people watch before we head out

Thanks

My family likes to stand on the bridge between Big Thunder and the main street of Frontierland. (The actual bridge acoss the river, not the street that passes the Splash drop) You can see Tink fly most of the way, the crowds are more subdued and the reflection of the fireworks on the river is pretty. We headed back to big thunder for a final ride and by the time we finished that the crowds were cleared out somewhat.

Also had a great time this trip on the catwalk on top of the Contemporary. Go up to the top floor - 17 I think - turn right out of the elevator, then right again. Walk past the diners, down the ramp, and out the glass doors. There is a great "balcony" where you can see the ENTIRE MK. It is beautiful!! They pipe in the music and you can even see Tink if you watch closely.
