I've had the opportunity to work the Magic Kingdom Entrance Turnstyles and would like to share some tips & info with all of you, which may save you time and help expedite your entry into the most Magical Place on Earth :wizard:

I've noticed various questions here from time to time and hoping that putting this info all in one place will prove helpful :)

The first suggestion I'd like to offer is, when you first receive your tickets, please designate one ticket for *each* member in your party (if a paper ticket, please write or sign names on the back). Have each person ready at the turnstyle with their own ticket. Children (ages 3-9) with a child's ticket do *not* need to use the finger scan biometrics. Once a new Adult (ages 10+) ticket is used in the biometric system, that ticket will not work for another member in your party, so always use the *same* ticket for each person, and always use the *same* hand for your finger scan.

Protect your tickets and keep them safe from contact with credit cards and cell phones as these can cause your tickets to become demagnetized rendering them unreadable at the turnstyles. (if this happens, visit the Guest Relations window where they will print you a replacement)

Lost tickets - visit Guest Services, bring along a photo ID and if possible have all of your other party's tickets along.....they will look up your information, void the lost ticket and print you a replacement.

Know your ticketing media - Depending upon your purchase, some roomkeys have your park passes on them, and some don't, requiring a separate ticket at the turnstyle. Some tickets are ONE park per day only....if you have these, you may not visit more than one park on any given day, as these are not Park-Hoppers.

Don't panic at the biometrics reader :) ;) Hold two fingers (like a Peace Sign) and slide them into the box, all the way in and around the black post and gently close your fingers together (like a scissor). Don't press down (this is not fingerprinting :p ). CM's attending the turnstles will gladly help you to do this properly if you require assistance :)

Edited to add: Please stand directly in front of the turnstyle, extending your hand in front of you, and remember to hold still for a moment to let the scanner take it's reading. Folks who continue walking forward in between the turnstyles with their hand in the reader, or those who wiggle and shake their hands about generally have a harder time ;)

If you have older tickets (those with no magnetic strip on the back) or tickets that have become frayed, wet or otherwise worn or mutilated...... please visit the Guest Service window for replacement before heading to the turnstyles.

Park Opening - Guests are admitted through the turnstyles approximately 10 minutes before park opening, but will remain on the Mickey Floral side of the Train Station until the Official Park Opening. There is an Offical Opening Ceremony each morning, best viewed from the center, in front of the Mickey Floral.

If you have Breakfast reservations for *before* park opening, you will be directed towards the left side turnstyles, where you will be admitted at the appropriate time.
If your reservations are at park opening time or afterwards, you will be admitted through the other turnstyles along with all the other day guests.

Stroller rentals are located in the front of the park entry on the left hand side just outside of the News Stand.......Wheelchair and ECV rentals are on the right hand side.....Locker rentals are located underneath the train station on the right hand side.

*SPECIAL EVENT WRISTBANDS* such as MNSSHP or MVMCP - location and distribution for wristbands are at the Rose Garden (right side of the Castle heading towards the walkway towards Tomorrowland) from 4pm until 6pm, and are distributed at the turnstyles beginning at 4pm and continue until closing. Special event tickets generally do not require finger scanning :)

When we were there in June they had us go to the right as you face the park. So when we go in November we will be going left as you face the park?

TIA,
Alice

Great Information! Thanks. One question though, from your post is it true that Main Street no longer opens one hour before the rest of the park? We used to like to get there, and shop or eat in the Bakery, and be at the ropes of our "Land of choice" when they dropped the ropes at the official opening.

Thanks. -John

I have a question about getting replacement tickets. I have two old Park Hopper passes with Plusses on them. Won't the plusses go away if I get replacement tickets?

Thanks,

KC :sunny:

Yes, this is correct. While it was at one time on the right, it is currently on the left.

Currently, guests pass through the Turnstyles and are held from passing through underneath the train station until after the Opening Park Ceremony, where Mickey conducts a countdown. Other than those Guests with early breakfast reservations, No-one proceeds under the Train Station until Mickey gives the "OK" :)

and KC, I'm sorry, but I don't know offhand the answer to your question about the plusses. If someone else can't reply with an answer sooner, I'll try and rememeber to ask for you when I return on Wednesday :)

Thanks for the great info PandyPaws. Can you tell me if the same opening (open gate 10 minutes early for opening ceremoney) procedure for morning EMHs?

Another question, if you know, if no one is really let in until opening time is there still a "rope drop"?

thank you so much for the info.

the tip about having your tickets out, ready and distributed to all the folks in your party is a very handy one that we employ. boy do we find that we always end up behind a group where the "desingnated ticket keeper" is not doing their job effectively and fumbeling with who gets what ticket just as they reach the entrance.

have your bags off your back/arm and have them and all the inside components unzipped for security to see/root thru too. that helps move the bag check line along also. (and at each park entrance there is a place for those with no bags to check to go as well. use it if you can.)

That is terrific - thanks!

If I may add one thing -

Bag Check - Every park every day every time you enter. I saw so many people try to bypass or say "but you checked it this morning"! Open it up - unzipper it, whatever it takes to speed up the check and make it easier for the security people. Even a "tiny bag" is a bag and they will want to check it.

I had more LOL moments waiting for bag check!

I haven't yet worked an opening EMH morning, but I promise to pay close attention this Friday morning and report eactly what happens :earboy2:

I believe there is still 'rope drop' to the specific "Lands" afterwards

Thanks for the great info. Being that I haven't been to disney since 1991 this info. is very useful.

One question I had is...Do the room keys that have the tickets on them look different for each person so you know who's ticket is who's?

In late May/early June we were at MK at rope drop on 4 different days (none of them EMH). The opening procedure and time we were admitted was slightly different each day. On the rainy day there was no opening ceremony; they let the guests progress into the "tunnel" and a few characters came in to say hi. On two days there was "rope drop", then there were other "ropes" at the entrance to the various lands, for the "real" opening 10 minutes later.

Hi, Donna. It is so great to see you again, and great information. Thank you for posting.

Sincerely, Ray :)

No, you will not lose the plusses.

If your old tickets are worn out and you just need to have the ticket re-printed - they will issue you a new PHYSICAL ticket, but the information will be exactly the same as it was. So if you had a 6 day park hopper plus ticket, and used 4 days, and 2 water park admissions, your replacement ticket would have 1 day and 1 water park admission.

If you are looking to get a new Magic Your Way ticket, using your unused days as credit towards the Magic Your Way ticket, then you STILL would end up with water park admissions. When getting a new Magic Your Way ticket using a dollar credit from a partially used pass, the options on the Magic Your Way ticket must match. So in the example I used above - your new Magic Your Way ticket would have to be a 6 day ticket with park hopping, water parks and more, and non-expiration - so you'd still have the plus admissions.

Make sense?

No. All of the room keys will look exactly the same at first glance. However, each person's name is printed on their ticket. They used to just print the name of the lead guest on everyone's ticket, but they changed that and YOUR name will be on YOUR ticket. :)

There is no opening show on EMH mornings....the turnstyles open up at 8am

Thanks for all this information, it really helps. Did they take you away from my favorite, Animal Kingdom?
Also, you didn't mention, but "If you're a DIS member, make sure your lime green Mickey head is proudly displayed at the gate!"

Thanks for the good tips. I'm forwarding the scanning tips to my mom. She is definitely the type to panic if she doesn't get it right the first time. :)

Where can you get one of these ? I certainly was planning on a lime green ribbon or t-shirt but does the disboards have an official pin ? Thanks Elisa

I bought my tickets from ticketmania and they are paper. Once I check in can the CM scan the paper tickets to be put on my room key?

I got mine at Home Depot, it is actually a paint sample card (Alien Green).
