just curious why the park would close so early on August 17? Any insight?

Perhaps a private event. Perhaps a Halloween party.

Speculation is the first MNSSHP date and that Disney will do a 6pm park closing for MNSSHP in 2018 like they did for MVMCP in 2017.

But, early August calendars have been later revised before, so take that with a grain of salt.

Third option is Disney is just trolling us.
