MK "babyish" for 2nd graders?

Although perhaps after the mom commented that this is for babies, the child did not feel too enthusiastic.

I bet that's what happened...what a shame for that little boy. :sad2: I believe that most kids who have more "grown up" attitudes towards things are like that because the parents cause it...intentionally or not. I don't think it's a natural thing.

Yep count us in too, guess that makes me (46), DH (54) & DS (15) just about the biggest babies walking this earth :thumbsup2

Oh man, the whole "I'm too grown up for that!" attitude in children these days DRIVES ME NUTS!!! This is the same reason I hate that Universal commercial with the kids saying things like "If had to hug another princess, I was going to puke!" Why can't kids enjoy being children anymore?

Hoky smokes, you said it!!!
That commercial makes me insane...yet parents think it is CUTE that their kids act jaded and that everything is beneath them.

I know the OP stated something like "this isn't a mom who has her kid on the fast track or anything', but it still troubles me that a 7 year old would find MK babyish. 7??? When is 7 grown up???

I posted to another thread about this same topic...kids growing up too fast. It is the media, retail & parents faults. WE are buying the min-juniors clothes for 8 year old girls so that they look like little tramps...but oh isn't it cute???
WE buy the cell phones for 9 year olds because deep inside we don't want to be the parent who says NO or make the Thompsons down the block think we CAN'T AFFORD IT. (Again, don't give me the "its for safety" spiel I hear from parents...is your kid really SAFER with a $195 Razr phone or just safer socially?)

It saddens me to think of all these young people who are being robbed of simple pleasures and enjoyment because we threw stuff at them too early. They can't pretend anymore because video games do the pretending for them; they want to shop and wear makeup at 6 because their BRATZ doll does; people take their 7 year old sons to Hooters! It is sick.

People...from someone who was assualted at age 13 because I tried to grow up too fast, protect your kids!!!! Don't rob them of their childhood because of your desire to show the world you have money. SAY NO to requests for things that are not age appropriate. They will thank you later, I promise.

There are so many things to do besides hug princesses at WDW. The commercial makes it seem like Disney doesn't have any good rides, which is untrue. Putting the whole experiece of rides, character interaction, shows, and theming puts Disney miles ahead of the competition.

I'm 52 so I am an even bigger baby than you. :) MK is my favorite park, and I feel very sad for a child that can't feel the magic.

My DS5 loves MK. When we're there it's like I'm his best friend because I'm always the one who gets so excited about everything big and small. It's a great thing to share with him. My teens have their favorite ride there too. It always brings back great memories for them and I hope it continues to and becomes a tradition when they start their own families. We will never outgrow MK that's one thing I'm sure of.:thumbsup2

What about Liberty Square? That's babyish? Makes ya wonder what the kid wants to do when he is an adult. :darth: And won't he be a fun Dad. :crazy2:

Wow, that's interesting! My DD7 loves MK! I'm 33, and I love MK.

ITA with the pp that said "This is the same reason I hate that Universal commercial with the kids saying things like 'If had to hug another princess, I was going to puke!' Why can't kids enjoy being children anymore?"

I have a feeling that she may have come up with the idea that it's to "babyish" on her own! no self respecting child could ever think MK is "babyish"...my twins are 13 and they still love it, for that matter so do my hubby and I! :thumbsup2 My 19 year old....not so much! :rotfl2: he prefers Epcot. Last year, my niece (20) came down to Florida for Thanksgiving and we could only go to WDW for one day with her before she went back to college. We asked her which park she wanted to visit and we barely finished the sentence before she said Magic Kingdom. To her, all the magic is there from her first trip when she was 5. I think that's what a lot of us "old babies" love about MK.

I HATE the Universal commercial too-but I love the fact that while Universal is losing money, WDW raises prices and still draws larger crowds! (cue Nasty evil laugh...)

My son was 15 last year when he went to WDW for the first time. Claiming he was "too big for Mickey Mouse" and "My friend said it was lame" basically kicking and screaming (quietly) all the way. I think that lasted about 10 minutes once we got to MK on our first day. If that. If my jaded 15 year old had a ball there, I can't see how it can be too babyish for a 7 year old! Did they spend the entire time in Toontown? Is the child both blind and deaf? I"m trying to imagine it... I can't!

Glad I got all of these opinions...I was thinking the same thing when my friend announced this yesterday...the other thing I was thinking was how in the world they even did much in August and going to BOTH AK and MK in the same day. Bet the barely saw either.

The kids does not strike me as one who is in to everything older, but I do agree that it was the mom's opinion mostly! Her poor 4 yr old daughter barely got to see anything I bet!

My grandson at age nine could not get enough of the characters at MK. This "too cool" kid was beside himself when he got a little hug from Cinderella!MK is never too childish, no matter what your age, if the child inside of you still exists.

If she found MK "babyish" then she definitely didn't see enough!! My oldest DS is almost 10 and he can't wait to go to MK...."Pirates", Space/Splash/Big Thunder mountains, Tom Sawyer Island, Buzz Lightyear, Indy Speedway, ETC.!

Well I guess this almost 30 year old needs to go back to the first grade. Because I love the MK. :)

Hey...cool! They get nap time in the first grade! :)

Yikes, I certainly hope not! If it's too babyish for a second grader then it must be very weird seeing a sophomore gamboling around MK without a care in the world!

I couldn't agree with you more! It's not only the kids who are "growing up" too fast, It's almost like the parents are driving the naivete out of them. But why? Why won't parents let their kids be sweet & innocent? They must have no idea what they're in for in the teen years otherwise they'd hold onto that innocence as long as possible!

I totally agree with you there. It's fine to be adult and responsible and grown up at home for important things like school, work, etc. but how healthy is it to be stiff and dull all the time? Everyone needs a little Magic Kingdom!

p.s. ~ MK=my favorite!

magic kingdom is my favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Way back in the 70's I was 7 yrs old and my first time at WDW(MK)..before Epcot...Loved it ever since. Favorite all time vacation spot! If someone asks my 76 yr old mother that question. Disney of Course :goodvibes The next time we visit WDW my DS will be 7. I know he will LOVE it still  So where does a 7 yr old take a vacation? Las Vegas? On the beach checking out the other 7 yr olds?
