My neighbor got back yesterday from Orlando and was telling us of her trip...they spent one day at Universal (too old for her kids-- 7ish and 4), spent ONE day at MK and AK, and one day at Islands of Adventure. She said MK was really "too babyish" for her 7ish yr old son! She's not a mom who has her kids on a fast track for everything either, I was so surprised to hear her say that! Guess it's what you make of it.

Huh? I have never heard the word babyish used in the same sentence as MK before. Are you sure this person was at the real MK? :confused3

It may be babyish for some, but it's just right for me!

"babyish"! Absolutely not! Did they spend the whole time at Toontown? MK is a wonderful park with so much to do. Since when Buzz Lightyear's Spaceranger Spin, space mountain, pirates of the caribbean, jungle cruise, big thunder mountain, or splash mountain are babyish? :confused3

MK is my Ds 12 favorite park and he has been to Disney around 15 times so he knows all the options. Maybe they didn't do the whole park? If they got stuck in Fantasy land that might explain it.

I love it !!! I could see a thrill ride nut saying it was tame, but not babyish, especally for a 7 year old. I think it is perfect though I wish they would put something else in adventure land to make more adventure...

Sheeshhhhhh.....More folks that just do not get it. :rotfl2:

I could see how the MK could seem too "fantastical" for some people; Disney does kind of slap you in the face with the magic. (Gently, of course, and with lots of love.) It's quite a lot to take in.

HOWEVER

I wouldn't have it any other way. Every aspect of the park is just so stimulating for the imagination. It literally and figuratively transports you to a completely different world -- a world of magic and imagination and fantasy. But it wouldn't be the truth to say that's a world for everyone. :confused3

I'm going to be 18 soon...have I even hit 7 years old yet because I certainly don't remember a time the MK was ever "babyish". :rotfl: Perhaps the child is just too sophisticated to enjoy a good imagination and some family fun...oh and the poor child must be too mature for a good dream and wish also! lol.

Sounds to me like they hit one part of the park and stayed there. did you ask them if they went on splash, space, BTM, PotC, JC, anything like that?

Some people don't get it no matter what.

I hear so many people who wait and take their kids for the 1st time when they're older, , " My child hated MK or even WDW in general, its so babyish, how could your son want to go year after year ?."

I just say he loves it, especially MK. My DS is 8. One time I didn't choose MK as our 1st park to visit on our trip, I thought my family was going to disown me. Even my 38yo DH was upset. From now on, the 1st touring day, its always MK. :teeth:

Oh man, the whole "I'm too grown up for that!" attitude in children these days DRIVES ME NUTS!!! This is the same reason I hate that Universal commercial with the kids saying things like "If had to hug another princess, I was going to puke!" Why can't kids enjoy being children anymore?

My girls are 13 and 19 and although the MK is not my 19 year old's favorite park (she is a theater major - MGM has her vote) neither of them ever complain of going there. I think they would complain if we skipped it!! I am not too old for the MK and I am certainly older than 7. :rotfl:

I couldn't agree with you more! It's not only the kids who are "growing up" too fast, It's almost like the parents are driving the naivete out of them. But why? Why won't parents let their kids be sweet & innocent? They must have no idea what they're in for in the teen years otherwise they'd hold onto that innocence as long as possible!

Edited to add *I'm so grateful everyday that I raised my 17 yo DS in the "Disney" way. He may have some of that teen attitude, but he's a Good Kid. I think it's because we encouraged him to be a kid & to see the good in things rather than the harsh.*

Second grade?! I don't buy it.

I feel certain this was the parent talking about her own feelings, not the 7 year old. Although perhaps after the mom commented that this is for babies, the child did not feel too enthusiastic.

I've heard the same thing from a friend who was at MK, for 2 hrs, with her dd2...this was 9 yrs ago. They went in June and she claims that it was so hot and humid :sunny: , they stayed 2 hrs and left.... :confused3
They have never been back, her dd11 and ds7 will NEVER see WDW. She told me that it is all fairies and very babyish. She claims her dd says, who would want to go to Mickey and Donalds land? Huh??? They've never been to Epcot, AK, or MGM, either. No matter how many times I try to talk to her about it, she doesn't get it, refuses to get it and just plain doesn't understand it. :confused3 Also, she claims that her kids are too mature for such babyish things. I told her we are all kids at heart, no matter how old we are and it is fantasy and oh so magical. It is truly a special place.

Ok, these people that say MK or Disney for that matter is too babyish obviously are not kids at heart. So, when they are 50, they will look 60, while those of us who are kids at heart will look 40!

I just feel sorry for the kids, because you know they are hearing their parents make these comments. The really sad thing, they could then pass this same judgement to their kids. Then these people make comments to other people who may decide not to go. :furious:

What I love about the MK and most of the parks, the rides are family friendly. Everyone can ride together and very few rides have height restrictions, so even the littlest can enjoy also. That is exactly what Walt had in mind!

I am a teenager and I don't find MK babyish in any way shape or form. We do Fantasyland every single trip, and Goofy's Barnstormers makes Toontown a must do for us. We go pretty frequently, and I have not grown out of it.
