MK at rope drop ? quick ?

what are my chances of getting a FP for it later in the evening once all my morning ones are used up? hate for my kids to miss this ride... but at the same time hate to stress the family out trying to get back there right off the bat
Probably no if you have three fast passes already

if we go back to the hotel for a long midday break.. I'm hoping they will have the energy to stay up ... I hope I will have the energy also :)

Good luck and have fun. We find staying late to be a much more efficient use of our time than waiting outside of a locked gate for an hour in the morning.

But if you want the chance to get picked as Family of the Day, you gotta be there early

It depends on the crowd level and where you are in the rope drop throng, and also, which route you take. We tried it during spring break last year, took what I now know is the long route (straight through the castle), and even though we were at the very front of the pack, next to the CMs with ropes, 7DMT had a 40+ minute wait when we were allowed over. That was a busy (but not mega-crowded) period last year, though, & 7DMT was a bit newer then.

Here is a link to an article I read about the lesser-known "short route" to take when heading to 7DMT at rope drop:

Keep in mind that the article came out 2 years ago, so YMMV.

I think that advice from Josh still holds, seems like he attempted the short route with success a month or two ago.

We did MK RD four times on our trip. We were never heading to SDMT at RD, but the cast members walked the SD crowd all together and another cast member walked all of the AE/PP crowd all together. iMO the best spot is going to be at the front on the right side to head out after the show. The CMs are going to keep the line all together and no running but you need to be at the front to begin with and walk very swiftly or a lot of people will pass you.

One day on our trip SDMT was down at RD and the people who went there waited two hours until it opened. It was terrible. But you never know when a ride will go down!
See any people in ECVs? How do they fair at MK RD?

See any people in ECVs? How do they fair at MK RD?

When my mom came with us in January, I knew she'd need an ECV, and had booked a BOG PPO so she could avoid rope drop madness. I'm sure some people in ECVs can manage it, but I wouldn't want to try.

It is very difficult to navigate a ECV at Magic Kingdom during rope drop. Crazy crowded, excited guests, hyper kids, people walking and weaving while staring at their phones, Photopass photographers in the middle of the street taking family photos, it's a mad, mad time on a ECV for sure.

I don't recall any ECVs at RD anywhere, except at AK one day. We were right on the front row at the rope (Internal RD) waiting for the birds to fly by for them to let us start moving to Safari. While we were waiting a woman basically pushed her way to the front right behind us using her ECV. I don't think I've ever seen an ECV in RD anytime prior to this or after. I just don't think they move as fast as the people.
