Due to late arrivals the night before and shortened hours on Friday, I'm now contemplating just taking the kids (4,7) to MK after lunch from noon-ish to close on 9/1. If we did the 9am entry, we would still likely leave by 6pm as I'm sure they'll be exhausted by then, so about the same amount of time inside the park. I figure I get 3 fast passes in the afternoon and just be flexible in exploring and hitting up anything with a "low" wait time. Any other advice for later arrivals into the park? Maybe watch some of the indoor shows when it's the hottest?

just have your first 3 FP+ early in the afternoon so you have chance to get more FP+ later on. also, other than the afternoon heat, there is also a chance of rain. indoor shows sound good!

Eat a late breakfast/early lunch before you head to MK to maximize park time. This will also help "schedule" an off-peak meal at MK to beat the crowds and save time. Decide if you want to catch the afternoon parade and make a plan for it.

I think days like this are great and good to mix in once a trip if you can. I find the rope drop days I feel so rushed and anxious trying to squeeze in as many rides as possible before lunch. We did a day last year like you are proposing and it was one of my favorites and least stressful days, especially good to do after a late night. This was the only way we could fit in the FoF parade that we missed the year before. We slept in, ate lunch at the resort, then arrived at MK around 1. Rode the train all the way around (missed that the year before too), grabbed a snack on main st, watched the parade then headed to tomorrowland to start using fastpasses. Rode buzz, space, peoplemover, tomorrowland speedway, then it felt super crowded and hot so we did monsters inc and that was a great break from the heat. Then we walked to our fave QS at Columbia harbour house and ate around 530 before it was crowded. We then did big thunder mtn, splash then watched the evening parade. There would have been time for more things but we were doing rider switch because we had 4 little ones. Philharmagic and Hall of Presidents would be great to do on a day like this! Best wishes to you!
