I think the coffin gives a kind of closure. I'm sure there were many memorials after 911 and other tragedies where there was an "empty" coffin. It's like all the memories can be assigned a place we can visit and give homage.

My cousin was killed on USAir 427 in 1994. His funeral was about a week later, there was an empty casket to make it seem "real". It was a high speed crash and the remains were all scattered, no one was identified at that point. They did eventually identify some small remains and they were put in a masoleum.

Considering the Jacksons, I think it was empty and it was there for "dramatic effect".

I don't think it's anyone's business other than the family.. No need to notify the public.. Providing MJ never said he would be opposed to it, if I were his family I would have had him cremated and scattered his remains at Neverland..

To publicly announce where he is buried (if burial is what they chose) is just asking for someone to come in and deface his grave, dig his body up, or whatever.. It's best that no one ever knows..

I agree. I hope they never tell the public. The only thing I want to know is that his three kids are not broken apart.

The last i heard according to a newspaper was that burial is being postponed until the ME finishes withe testing whatever brainmatter they took and returns it to the family. The ME confirmed having the brainmatter and says families often wait until it is all returned to bury ppl. Sounds plausible to me. Nice, neat and so uncircuslike.
